Hi Torun, the VN is a totally different experience to the “proper” American trucks like the 379/W900.

The Volvo is effortless, quiet and soft, whereas the Pete/KW is a big noisy brute.

Think with your head and the Volvo wins every time, but think with your heart and the Pete wins by a mile.

i drove both down in spain a while back loved the sound out of the peterbuilt w900 but i preferred the vn 780 it had all the creature comforts ,tv ,microwave, doublebed etc both pulling fridge trailers,my uncle drives over there canada to south usa,and back he drives a vn780 to, he loves it, he sent me pictures of a longline top line Tcab r620 silver 1 up in canada some machine

You mean a peterbilt 379 a w900’s a kenworth

Cut him a bit of slack, he’s probably been inhaling to much model glue.

I’m on a K 108 log truck as my daily drive at the moment. We asked the boss if we could get new trucks and were told if we didn’t stop whinging he would replace the whole fleet with Commer Knockers, or Micky Mouse Fodens…

Jeff…

gotta love a two stroke commer jeff-think of the noise lol

Kenworth K109 with a B Double Elphinstone Easy- Load log jinker. It might look about as sophisticated as hitting a rock with a hammer, but flick a few switches and it folds up to 10 meters long, and runs on 4 axles at 19 tons.
Apart form the self tightening straps which you have get out and throw over the load, everything is operated from the cab by either air or Hydraulic. 4 way diff lock, Central tire inflation so we can drop the tire pressure in the forest to about 40 psi for added traction, auto load, and unload of the second trailer, on board scales, 20 minutes to load, and 5 to tip. I spend 10 hours out of a 12 hour shift actually driving. A$740,000 each truck, they buy sleeper cabs as they have better resale value. 57 ton.3 tons and we’re usually with in 50kg of that each time we leave the forest.

That photo was taken at 7 am, was my 3rd load that day, when I got back to the yard I washed it fuelled it up and the day shift driver took over to do his 12 hour shift…

Yes I’ll probably build a model of it, one of the drivers is retiring in 6 months, so it’‘’ probably be a leaving present, and yes it’ll loaded and dirty.

Jeff…

Jeff…

No, that’s next on the list, I didn’t want to get that in case I got carried away and started sticking bits together before I do a dry fit.

I’m already hooked

Don’t glue the 5th wheel in position until you have your trailer sitting on it.
I don’t know what tires are supplied with the kit but if they are the hard plastic 2 piece ones then it’s easy to change them for after market rubber ones, you can even get various drive tire tread options now.

Jeff…

Thanks Jeff, good tip for the 5th wheel. Yes it does have the two piece tyres, I have a tyre fetish so I definitely want accuracy there. Going to get some decent rubber for both the unit and trailer.

Going to have to file them down almost to the cords if I want a completely accurate representation of my old flat top F12
