Same with me they would need to fix that

As far as I can remember Karen runs an ebay store, some times she takes it down for a few days to renew things, it’s either Karens models, Karens hobbies or Karens hobby shop. It’s a fairly big site. The other one I used to buy from quite often was Omni, again it was either models, or hobby. The other guys I used a fair bit were some of the Chinese or Hong Kong on line stores, they used to get stuff to me in about 4 days. often free shipping…Be wary of the Greek guy as his prices are extremely high and he often loads the shipping as well.

Two ways of painting the chassis. glue everything together and paint it all as one, or leave the engine and gear box out. assemble the rest of it, axles tanks, guards, etc, paint the chassis, then do the engine in factory colour, and then drop the engine and box in.

As the paint is drying wiggle the steering back and forward as sometimes the paint glues the smaller parts together.
Give it a day or so to dry then you can get all your small paint brushes and mat colours and add detail, ( Black / gray rear wings, air bags etc )Don’t paint it with the wheels on, do them after then add the lights and decals.

I still get 2 or 3 hours a week, nothing like the time I used to get, but I still enjoy my time doing it.
I’ve gone back to building for enjoyment, when I look at them I remember the good time I had driving in their era and the good mates I made. I know a lot of guys that build for competitions and add detail every where.
The closest show for me is over in Victoria, and that would involve either a 2 day drive + a 16 hour expensive ferry ride to get there and the same coming back. I wouldn’t try and take any of them on a plane again, the last time I did that I had an Astran Scania as carry on and the security wanted to cut it up to have a look, so I refused to fly and went home. I don’t fancy packing it in a suit case and getting it chucked about by baggage handlers either. Now my models never leave the house and most of the visitors we get don’t give them more than a passing glance. I have a few that are fully detailed inside the cab and under the chassis, but they sit high on a shelf and I just enjoy looking at them. For me adding an extra 200 hours doing stuff I’ll never see again doesn’t make sense.
Most of the super detailed models I had got destroyed in a fire a few years back and that’s a bit off putting as well, some of the builds I was doing turned out to be a bit of chore and I was getting reluctant to finish them. So I went back to building for enjoyment…

Jeff…

SORRY TO HEAR THAT JEFF MOST OF THE LADS TRANSPORT THEM NOW IN CASES rapped in foam as hand luggage so security can just pull off the foam to see inside, sorry to hear about the fire,as you said you enjoy looking at them thats the main thing as ex truckers the diesel will never leave our veins lol

Didn’t know you drove gerry

This wasn’t what I was expecting to find when I got home… A sad day…

I was a bit surprised about all the cob webs.

The insurance was pretty good about it. I tried to salvage some of the bits, but the heat makes the plastic very brittle, and unusable.

That’s sad

Yes you can sand plastic card. Anything you can buy at a steel stockholder you can get in scale in Evergreen, or Plastruct, plate, angle, bar, tube, channel, box… as well as corrugated, brick effect, tiles, etc the list is endless.

Gerry I still drive trucks.

That’s good looks like I wouldn’t have to buy any after market parts apart from a daf 105 rhd

Keep the tips coming gents, I’m feeling a lot more confident now :sunglasses:

I’ve been thinking about a trailer to put my F12 under, I was thinking about a spread axle fridge or tilt to give it a period feel, at the moment I’m leaning towards a tilt, maybe a Ferrymasters, I remember an F12 model that had the option of Ferrymasters colours or yellow cab with green stripes. Did they do a model of a Ferrymasters tilt by any chance?

Italeri do a spread axle tilt in the colours of Gruber, you can do that on but paint it in Ferrymaster colours, there are plenty of guys that will do the correct decals for bothte the F12 and the tilt. Italeri also do a kit called Cargo Trailer which is based on a mid 90’S Cardi tilt.
The spread axle trailer has a couple of basic flaws that are very easy to correct, just sing out before you start and I can tell you how to get round they in a few minutes.
If you go to page 46 Oldish Joba built the Gruber kit out the box and added his own decals, and on page 47 it’s the same kit behind My Cargo International 141, with the modifications, and Jim’s done a similar thing to the same kit behind his F88, the rest of the tilts I have on here are scratch built and take about 200 hours each.

Jeff…

Can I just say all you modellers are really helpful

Thanks Jeff, it will be a while before I start on the trailer, bit I’m going to order it at the same time to keep shipping costs down hopefully.

You may be able to get your f12 from your local model shop I went to mine the day for the first time and he had them but he didn’t have the kit I was looking for never going there again

Because of the expense involved in research and development, often manufacturers do a joint model. Revelle and Italeri do the same model eg the Tautliner and tipper trailer are both sold by them, the packaging and colour of the plastic are usually different, sometimes they use different material for the tires but on the whole the kit is the same.
Heller and Airfix also do the same, they both sell the Scania 141, when you put it together it’s the same kit, they also do a Trailor tri axle tilt and they both do a tri axle fridge van, again it’s the same kit in a different box.
They’re not trying to cheat anyone it’s just how it is.

Model Car Mountain is the other company that I buy from on eby, they’ve been on there for years. Sometimes it just comes up as “Mountain”

Jeff

Hi Newmercman I might just add that the tandem spread axle kits only came in two forms as Jeff said the Grubber kit and the 40’ container kit, but they are both getting difficult to get hold of, but do pop up on the Bay every now and again, don’t forget some of these kit are 25 years plus old !! That’s if you want a spread axle, there are a couple tri axle tilts on the Bay now.
