MODEL TRUCKS

There was a bloke that could chrome plate plastic (he did various bits inside an FH featured in Trucking mag) maybe some of you could learn that trick and chrome parts yourselves?

There’s an Italian company called New Fanta Chrome that do spray chrome which is what a lot of manufactures use.
The latest thing for chrome effect is spray on silver oxide, but that requires a lot of specialised equipment…
Alsa corp also do a similar product to New Fanta. It’s the stuff they used to put on mag wheels a few years back, but of a black art to get a result though.
For a model bumper you’d probably be better to use that chrome tape that Howard is selling, you could also get it from most sign writers, as its a fairly common thing that they use. I would imagine they would throw away larger pieces than it would take to cover a 1/24 model bumper.

I delivered twice to the industrial estate in the Creggan that was in 1980 the firm I went to was Essex International Inc. they made wiring looms for cars and we were taking their machinery out of a plant they had at Kilwinning it made the looms for Hillman Imps but with Linwood closing Essex were moving back to the main plant in Derry I remember the only other factory left standing in the estate was a Viyella one the rest had all been burned and bombed. There was no trouble at that time or wee would not have been over. I will always remember as you were going down into the Bogside there was massive big letters painted on the flats YOU ARE NOW ENTERING FREE DERRY. Eddie.

google is very handy :open_mouth: :unamused: :unamused:

It looks like Truck Model World and the on line forum are going to continue, but there is a warning “Use it or loose it” The ed has been given the release dates for the next years worth of publications, so there will be at least another years worth of mags in the news agent.
I haven’t been on there for a while but I managed to log in without any problem yesterday.
It is and always has been a mag for modellers by modellers and they are currently looking for contributors, so if you want you pride and joy in print let them know. It can be either just photos, or photos and words.
The contact details are on the site, as well as the magazine, and I have found them very approachable and friendly. They’ll be well represented at Gaydon so if you’re going just ask and someone will point you in the right direction.

From my own experience I can say they do pay for the articles they use, unlike some of the other publications I have done work for in the past.

Could I put out a plea for all you modellers to keep an eye on E Bay or similar for a built Esci Ford Transit being offered. On Sunday 15 June at the Gaydon model show, between 15:15 and 15:40 some scumbag decided to help themselves to my Transit which was displayed on our club stand (Thurrock Model Truck Club) and walk out with it. They must have done it really quickly because in doing so they broke off a sideboard of a tilt trailer that was behind it. It was blue with the livery ‘P&S Group, Essex’ on it, had 2 orange beacons and an aerial on the roof, and a bench with a vice in the back. I’m guessing the thief may not be stupid enough to try to sell it on E Bay as it’s instantly recognisable, it may well be stripped of livery and repainted, which means it’s a modeller that has stolen it. It’s not the value of the model that is bothering me, it was a very personal model, and I have had it a very long time. If anybody has any info on it, they can contact me via PM.

That’s disappointing to hear, especially as we all had such a good time at the show. Without wishing to sound negative, I fear you’ve probably seen the last of it which I’m sure has spoiled the weekend for you. Very disappointing indeed.
