That body looks great obviously a lot of attention to detail comes to mind CWM. I have mind o that motor used to see it on the A1 another one with a high body was an AEC I canny mind the operator but I think it was from the borders too. They must have been a bit of a handfull in some of the farms as they were never to fussy about the state o their roads. Eddie.
PS just come in mind o this one I think the body would be a PENMAN one as the photo was taken on the Whitesands Dumfries.
Hi “ERFGuy” ,
Thanks for the added information.
That is a Penman body for sure . They had a unique design for the ramp , with a deep underslung , making the loading angle less steep.
The double decker you are thinking about was A.E.Cs., owned by Thomas Muckle of Rothbury.
Cheers , cattle wagon man.
I bet that Clydesdale would rock about a bit when loaded, fair sized body on her,ta,Pete

Luckily the then maximum (legal ) speed would be 20 m.p.h. , …and that`s suffice for the loaded Albion !
Hi “ERFGuy” ,
It looks like itll fold down , normally taking around 5 minutes. Health & safety bods hadnt been invented back in those (common sense ) days .
" Hang on tae thi braces an cap,…it`s windy up theer today !!!"
Good looking deck you have there CWM. Very straight, I’m still chuffed to bits if all the wheels on mine touch the ground when it’s finished.
I used to get my truck body’s made by the guy at Woooler, ( can’t remember his name ) all hard wood, it took about 4 days for a flat bed. He built them straight onto the chassis so the truck had to be left with him. It was a top job. I had one on my F 7 and transferred it onto my F12 so it lasted a long time and bit a lot of work as well…
Have a look at AJS lorry photos on fotki, an old mate of mine Tipper Boy runs it. loads of old border trucks ( lorries ) on there, and Brian Edger is another one with a massive collection of border lorries.

Was the body builder at Wooler Fairningtons ■■?
Tyneside
Wow I can’t believe that is your first model I would be happy if mine turns out half as good as that were did you get the aftermarket parts or did you make them
Cheers Mark! Struggled to find the time, so it kept getting put away for a couple of months at a time. So the aim for the next one is to crack on with it, have set myself a Xmas deadline! I will be going to Gaydon on Saturday if your still going this year.

Some parts are out of the Italeri accessories box, some made and the headboard and rear lights came from Heinz at ModelMakerShop in Austria.
Good looking Daf there SSK are you going to put t trailer behind it?
Tyneside I can’t remember who it was, my Dad must have had 5 or 6 bodies built there, but I was only there once, I can remember most of the eastern border transport guys used to use him, Olivers of Kirk Yetholm, Rip fae Wooler, Campbell o Oxton. Jock Borthwick fa Boswells as well as Black Bob with his ERF’s, and his dad before him…
Jeff…

Hi, yep that looks nice! Straight forward build that one, streamline kit readily available and the tri axle frigo is also available from italeri (the one with flowers on the side on the box art).
I do like these trucks when the grille is painted black it looks really good.

That’s what I was thinking very simple the only problem I have now is getting the colours right and getting my air brush fixed apart from that I can start how’s your volvo going
Hi, I’ve never used an airbrush before I just use rattle cans fom halfrauds but they are quite good, sure you could get the colours from the range they have maybe.
The volvo is slow going still, finding time is getting harder! I need to get some clear acetate sheet to make the cab windows, once the windows are in along with the interior then I can fine detail the cab with pin stripes and the lettering.
Here’s a pic with the bumper propped up for show! I have just re re sprayed it with the chrome paint again and it is much more shiny than it looks in the picture.
