i do wear it,90% -99% off the time,im not an avoider on purpose , i simply forget time to time thats what it is,busy lives is my excuse -but my radar is now on heightened alert lookout for this white merc cruising the A14 , probably they are doing several forgetful souls each day id wager .few yrs back i was done myself yet i still forget . the day i saw the cop in layby it was about 6.30 am

Old vehicle? Most, if not all, have lights and buzzers don`t they? Are warnings mandatory?

Just stick a large paperclip in the seatbelt clip to disable the alarm

I can understand that warnings can be “fixed”. But corij is saying he isn`t a “deliberate avoider”.

And all of a sudden the new purge on side curtains makes more sense.

when you think about it theyre taking a heck of a risk ,the scare factor could induce a knee jerk reaction from the trucker being filmed.you catch a guy in the middle of a marriage breakdown or similar and he might easily think furk you and swing hit this merc push it off the road in road rage. not exactly the same but about 10 yrs ago i was out walking in the country and some lady shouted over, ran over to me and started on at me id bust their fence on their land.i hadnt so i just said not me shrugged my shoulders and walked off. 10 minutes later her and her hubby pull up in their car startin on at me,we want your address etc .i knew id got nothing to worry about but the thought went thru my mind,if they dont stop i think im going to kill them [at the time i was at tail end of some stressy situation in my life]. luckily they drove off . these days id probably have just laughed at them cos my lifes good

just saying, one day theyll pick the wrong guy at the wrong time to suprise /scare

Pretty much any activity that involves police interacting with folk has the same sort of risk. They deal with it every day.

Ftfy.

Their time on the m.way would be better spent sorting out the atrocious lane discipline on there, the ■■■■■ who stick to the middle lane like ■■■■ to a blanket, turning a 3 lane carriageway into a 2.
However, the likes of that arse wipe Angus Nairn and his ilk, prefer the kudos of poncing around in a tractor unit, hassling truckers instead. :smiling_imp:

harassing, thats the word ^ its one thing to catch joe blow in his mondeo from behind ,but when he has a gun/truck/knife in his hand / at very close quarters sideaways on, face to face, now youre talking . if the worst ever did happen itd be great to see the dash cam footage of the camera guys face as the merc was slammed into and careens off the A14 -check out the suspension travel ,amazing

Silly me - if it’s aimed at catching lorry drivers fubbing around with their phones etc rather than looking where they are going it’s “harassment”, but if it’s catching middle lane hoggers it’s doing the right thing…

Do people not…

A) Observe things in their mirrors

B) Get suspicious of plain white solo units catching up at a fair rate?

As soon as put all that mental effort into monitoring the livery and speed of vehicles behind you, while trying to drive and while trying to conduct a call, it would be easier to just behave yourself at the wheel and get a hands-free system.

Using mirrors every few seconds and observing other vehicles… if that’s mental effort then don’t get behind the wheel of a truck…

I say those who shouldn’t get behind the wheel are those who are spending all their time looking backwards whilst on a call, just to avoid using an earpiece or a loudspeaker.

Possibly. It’s why i don’t use my phone whatsoever whilst on the move - hands free or otherwise. Saves any and all issues then

Ok then, I’ll clarify my point…So in ‘‘Realworld’’ and speaking from my own experience, how many truck drivers on a day to day basis do you see ‘‘fubbing’’ (whatever tf that means) with their phone, in comparison to car drivers hogging the middle lane with all the crap that activity causes…1 in a 100 say? 1 in 500?
Not just that but it’s eating a banana, drinking a coffee, various activities that despite what we are told, (and again in Realworld) can be done safely, unless you believe and swallow all the bs brainwashing of course.

As I said…harassment. :bulb:

Fubbing: derived from FUBBIN - Finger Up Bum, Brain In Neutral. It was a term used by an ex-traffic sergeant turned driving instructor that I met professionally nearly 40 years ago when referring to any driver who wasn’t giving his full attention to the job of actually driving.

Rob, you usually talk sense, but comparing a ( admittedly annoying) middle lane hogger with a truck driver using his phone whilst driving, is comparing apples with pears. Whilst the middle lane hogger is a ■■■■■ and causing unnecessary bunching behind them, they of themselves are unlikely to cause an accident because of inattention to the road. Unlike (truck) drivers using their phone… we’ve seen the carnage that ensues when one of our "professional " colleagues plows into a queue of stationary traffic at 56mph…

By the way, are there any figures as to how many truck drivers have actually been done for sipping coffee, eating a sandwich or even smoking in the cab? Genuine question, because those are not offences in themselves, but need to be prosecuted as " driving without due care…", which is not as simple as the clear offence of “using a hand held phone”. I don’t know anybody who has been done for drinking coffee etc.

I was comparing them yeh, but not in terms of potential seriousness, but in terms of how frequent each situation is on a day to day/week to week basis.
For every 1 trucker on his phone who they are hunting (if they are lucky enough to find one that is :bulb: ) and that they jump on, they are at the same time sharing the motorway with all these f/whits hogging the middle lane and ignoring them.

As for figures?..not a scooby.
But… are you actually saying that you believe if Knobhead Nairn was cruising past you in his Megagiggaglobetrotter with his chum pointing a ■■■■ camera at you while you sipped on your Costa Latte, that they wouldn’t as sure as hell jump on the chance to nick you??
If so, I definitely do not share your views on the tactics and discretion of our wonderful Police force then bud.

To be fair though, when I was pulled for checking my notebook, (and mouthing f off to the cameraman  ) I was sent off with a caution…I’m a good talker see :sunglasses: .

was that westbound near trimley? im sure i saw the bike cop in the trimley layby by a truck i wondered what he was doing

As I’ve been using the A14 recently and Ive seen the bike cops regularly pulling over trucks, the ones I’ve seen pulled over seem to be those pulling unaccompanied trailers

How do you pull a trailer that’s unaccompanied ■■? :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:

I saw them last week ,they were only targeting foreign lorries that had been parked all night for some reason.

Looking for those swopping trailers on the dock? Cabotage??
Only a guess of course.

Why do you assume that they will ignore anything else that happens just because they are “targeting” mobile phone use?

^^^^^^^
Why do you assume they don’t.
