Hi Everybody
my Samsung Galaxy S5 mobile does not charge in the DAF CF 2017 unit. Tried multiple units, it’s the same. It’s showing it’s charging, but battery goes flat, like it wouldn’t be on the charger at all. I had this mobile in Scanias, and many cars, vans, and never had any problem with it. Used two different cigarette lighter to USB adapters, both doing the same. If I plug the phone to the original mains charger, or in my car it’s fine.
I can assume it’s the cr@ppy daf traktor unit.
Any advice?
Is the phone connected to the truck with bluetooth? Does it feel hot? If so then it could be that the bluetooth isn’t using low power mode and either that or some software you have running is preventing the phone from going to sleep and because you’re using a USB charger that has a low current rating the amount of power the phone is using is greater than the charger is supplying hence the battery going flat eventually even though it is showing it is charging.
Is it a genuine samsung cable, I only ask as I had a non genuine samsung cable and it would charge the phone about 2% over several hours, when using a genuine cable it took about an hour.
Hope this helps.

I’ve got banned from Argos for hesitating 20 min before taking it to the road, that had a faulty cigarette lighter socket. It’s not just one. All of it does the same way.
Not sure if this is helpful but I bought a small powerbank from Currys for this very reason it was about £20 its a Sandstrom one. My phone was charging so slow through the USB port that the battery still went down and the 12v kept getting quite hot when charging and still seemed to take forever to charge, my phone charges quicker from the power bank than anything else I’ve tried and I can charge the power bank through the 12v without an issue (strange!)
Could be the cigarette socket is dead but picking up a phantom voltage from other cables next to its own. Which is enough to trick the phone in to thinking it’s plugged in, but there will be no current to do anything useful.
I didn’t know about phantom voltage until I isolated a circuit in my house and still saw significant voltage there.
thanks for the answer, but the company has 50+ trucks, and it’s the same in all of them. It’s a design fault, not an isolated fault, or loose connection, or stray voltage.
It does charge my dashcam in all units, but the phone does not wanna charge(it’s showing charging, but battery goes flat)
Ordered a HELLA/DIN to cigarette lighter from Ebay, and that will run on the 24V outlet, not from the 12V. I think Daf using some cr@ppy 24V to 12V converters in the units, and the phone does not like it.
I have a power bank, but I don’t want to charge that too in every morning. I should be able to power it without problem.
Ordered a HELLA/DIN plug, and that will use the 24V outlet. I hope that will fix it.
that’s what I did. It’s on the way, from Ebay. The HELLA/DIN is 24V on Dafs, not 12V.
Does that cut the power when you take the keys out, or does it stay on all the time(like in Scanias) ?
