I love mysteries, especially about the Dunkerque Triangle :stuck_out_tongue:

I am intrigued by this.

Was going to say maybe been arrested for some illegal goods in his vehicle

Hope all is well with him.

This has a sadly all to familiar ring to it. You don’t say which country the police who told you they know where he is are from but if it was the French we have heard this on too many occasions.

It was actaually the West Midlands police who told us which is where
he comes from … and we still do not know anything further .
I am fearing the worst of course but hoping for his sake its not true.

As and operator who rents his trailers out to owner drivers to work on
our behalf we are wll aware that there are people who get tempted by
the promise of big money being offered by the crminal element.

Its also certain that anyone who underestimates HMRc is a fool and
have been assured that most of their finds are information led.

We as a well recognised shipper on Boats & train will not tolerate any of our
Sub-Contractors or indeed our own drivers abusing the rules and it would result
in the person or company being dismissed.

I will revert when more is known.

sadly there are lots of inocent drivers locked up for unknowingly carrying contraband or worse without being aware of it, I think you may be a bit quick to condemn someone who may be is a victim, it is bad enough that the French police concider unknowingly transporting drugs is entirely the drivers fault, well that’s if it’s a truck driver. Different rules for air freight, rail freight etc. I hope he is not in prison for having drugs on your trailer in France, because even if he is inocent he will be locked up for at lease a year or more!

Good Morning,

I most certainly am not condemming this driver at all and he is a long
serving member of our casual sub-contractor base and is a thoroughly nice chap
to boot.
We can all speculate on the possible reasons but I am waiting until we know more
for sure.
I am sure there are innocent drivers but I am also convinced there are some very
guilty ones as well who take their chances. In this counytry we are allowed to adopt the
attitude innocent until proven guilty… Thankfully.
The driver had shipped out to Calais… EMPTY with his OWN trailer and was simply
due to re-load in Holland on Friday just as he has done on a regular basis for us.

not really, if as suspected this has something to do with illegal substances then it can be quite some time before anyinformation is released, and if it does involve drugs then under French law he will not be charged for smuggling he will be charged for transporting for which there is no defence as the way the French law is written there is no distinction between with or without knowledge.

My post about the colour change was a tongue in cheek remark, not meant to be taken seriously. But the driver went out empty to load, was the load collected? Was it collected on time? Did the truck even get back to Calais as you said it was West Midlands Police who informed YOU not the family.

As drugs have been mentioned by another poster than this may be a timely reminder to “Just Say No”

Morning,
No further news… !
The truck did not load the scheduled collection.
He has not shipped back not the UK.

Regards
Neville.

This all looks a bit odd, it appears that the trailer hasn’t even had or got a load on, which would reduce the risks of drugs being hidden on the vehicle, so maybe that isn’t the problem here. I would guess that there hasn’t been an accident as the police wouldn’t be so secretive about it, would they?
I am completely baffled about this…
Nothing adds up

Lastly from me… From this companies point of view we now know
he is being held in custody but we know no more than that.
Certainly not where or indeed why.
It would I feel wrong to carry on any further discussions now
but suffice say the relevant authority will deal with the matter.
