Mirrors or cameras

What would you rather have mirrors or cameras to look behind you as the law has changed. The new facelifted Mercedes actros is going to be the first truck that you can order without mirrors but with a camera system.
Below is a picture of the actros with no mirrors but a camera system.

Mirrors for me everytime.
I started using them years ago and never looked back since.

Mirrors for me too.Not sure how good those cameras would be in the wet and snow.

That is some drivers problem they look AT the mirror instead of looking what’s in the mirror

Mirrors, “pull yer cameras in, I’m coming through” just doesn’t have the same ring to it :grimacing:

Both, cameras for when a Stobbie truck rip yer mirrors off …

I can see the benefits of cameras as the Antos has a lot of wind noise even with the windows up, but I’d still prefer mirrors.

Link to the fact the law has been changed to say you can have rear view cameras only on a vehicle instead of rear view mirrors?

I very much doubt it would be legal here in the UK for some time not to mention the cost of a pic of mirror glass compared to a camera when it gets broken which it will makes it a pointless idea.

And as said snow rain and ice would make it worse than normal mirrors and even the best camera systems currently are ■■■■■ at night time so useless again.

Sorry but can’t see it becoming a reality.

Mirrors.

Why fix what’s not broken?

Amazed it has taken so long myself.
They will remove the massive blind spot that most mirrors produce and can easily be heated etc to cope with the elements.

Because that is what they do, half of the stuff on trucks these days is over engineered, and is either pointless, or fitted to cater for complete idiots…or both. :unamused:

There are trucks and more commonly buses and coaches with cams and mirrors and I bet the mirror will still have the thumbs up more than the cam.

Exactly

Fond memories (NOT)…

Of one small rectangular, easy to shatter mirror on a stick that shook so badly in traffic it was useless. No wide angle on the nearside, no idiot mirror and no forward facing mirror.

I now have mirrors so big on the MAN I drive that I can’t see mid-size cars on roundabouts unless I lean forwards and look around the mirror.

Yeh, I’ll give cameras a go. I really can’t see Mercedes technology being defeated by some dirt and snow.

I’m not aware of any change in the law but I think cameras could have a big advantage over mirrors, with better all-round visibility I can see cameras being the norm eventually.

I assume the passenger side mirror/camera is viewed on that monitor next to the driver, Ken? I get the ’ enhanced ’ visibility for sure and elimination of blind spot(s), but I think it would take quite a bit of getting used to looking at the screen next to you rather than actually looking across at the passenger window.

Good link.

It’s not shown very well in the video but the screen on the right hand side of the driver looks like it’s a split screen showing the right hand side view, the rear view and the the view looking down the front of the vehicle.

I agree that looking at a monitor rather than the mirrors would take some getting used to but I can see nothing but advantages over mirrors.

how long would it be before the camera mirrors become recording camera mirrors??

we have new trucks with 6 cameras around the outside… the trouble at night time is the glare from the screen which is locked and cant be adjusted…
but a wooly hat would solve that.
