NPT at Cotes Park used to have a couple of well-kept old Foden wreckers, looked like late 1950’s models. Anyone know if they survived into preservation?
Used to deliver round the Notts/Derbyshire/South Yorkshire pits when I worked for Rainbows of Southwell. I agree with Nigel’s comments about the canteens, always good grub and cheap as well. The storemen were inevitably good blokes as were the yard staff, but it wasn’t just successive governments who brought the coal industry down. The amount of wastage and bad management had to be seen to be believed.

The only wrecker I remember being used by NPT was Q946 AVO acquired at the take over of British Coal transport. The photos below show it in the yard at South Normanton, the second photo before the take over in March 1988,I have no idea what happened to it after NPT.

LSV 236 this wrecker was restored by Lol Franks bodyman at British Coal, he restored it in his spare time in the bodyshop at South Normanton Garage, he later sold it to Cotes Park Commercials Ltd. Photo was taken at the back of the bodyshop 15th May 1988.

Photo taken in 1991 when owned by Cotes Park Commercials Ltd, I have no idea if it is still preserved.

The only other wrecker to come to NPT was this Foden S39 acquired from North Notts Area transport at Edwinstowe on take over of British Coal transport, it is taken at the side of the bodyshop at South Normanton Garage in 1988, it was never used by NPT but sold on to Cotes Park Commercials Ltd.

I took this photo of the same Foden at Cotes Park Commercials Ltd yard at Cotes Park Somercotes 19th October 1991, same again no idea if it was ever saved.

Those top two are the ones flatman, thanks very much for that. I didn’t know the older one was preserved privately, always wondered why it looked so nice.
Be nice to think those two are still kicking around somewhere.
