Middle lane hoggers

I wasnt working today, so I went by car and trailer to collect an old motorbike Id bought off the Bay.

A large white van was in the middle lane, there was nobody in the inside lane and nobody in the outside lane, I was only doing the 60mph allowed but he wouldn`t pull over and let me past. For miles.

I was just wondering what I`m supposed to do and which is the harshest penalty, undertaking, pulling a trailer in lane 3 or dragging an idiot out of a white van and punching his face?

Ok, I know the answer. Wait patiently behind the van at a safe distance and dont break the law at all until he turns off or moves over. Then continue safely on my journey. Stopping occasionally to check my vehicle and trailers condition.

Eeeeh, I was bloomin` mad!

If that happens to me in a lorry I give a flash or two to let them know I want to get past then if they don’t move over I carefully undertake them.

I figure if the law won’t stop them why should I be held up by them.

So you pass him on the left and get a pull, your comment could be, “Well officer I can’t have carried out an undertake. I joined the motorway in lane 1 and have not needed to overtake any other vehicles so have continued my journey in lane 1.”

■■■■ that. I just stay in lane 1 and undertake these ■■■■■ who sit in the middle lane.

I was on the m62 a few weeks back and there was some woman in a car plodding along in the middle lane, the road was absolutely clear, was a few cars a few hundred metres ahead of her and me a 100m or so behind , I would eventually start to ‘‘pass her on the left’’ then she would put her foot down and couple of minutes later it would happen again… I thought there was a new law out saying these drivers would be getting fined ? It didn’t really bother me this particular day but when its quite busy and some prick wants to sit at 53 in the middle lane and wont move over gets on my ■■■■

Right or wrong i never think twice about undertaking. M1 southbound express lane is a prime example (congestion use hard shoulder), often cruise by three lanes of muppets.

In situations like this I just pass on the left, it’s perfectly legal. It not my fault they want to stay in lane two. My lane is clear so what’s the problem? Some folk don’t seem to realise that it is legal to pass on the left, it’s undertaking to gain advantage that’s illegal (ie, move over to the left, pass and then move back to the right). It’s a bit like being on a busy motorway when lane one is moving faster than lane two.

I dont think twice about undertaking now. Why sit there behind a train of vehicles when the inside lane is clear. If the police want a word about it, they should also speak to the other drivers about due care and attention

Has anyone heard of a middle lane hogger being fined since the spot fines were introduced in the summer ?

For the record, I always go up the inside as well. Although I did get a pull once for doing it on a Ducati 748. I pleaded with the copper to just for once nick the Herbert who was clogging up the road, but he reasoned that my action was worse than his and gave me a fixed penalty for speeding.
Dirty gets.

Like the tosco t055 pot on the M25 hogging lane 2 doing 49mph…:imp:

Have you heard of anybody being done for tailgating or cutting into the slip road queue at the last moment. But then its a bit difficult when you’ve virtually got rid of Traffic Cops patrolling the motorways and rely on cameras for enforcement.

Just more political posturing without actually having any real effect.

Me too, but I was on a Trumpet Sprint ST 955i, and the copper did say that he wasn’t that bothered about me undertaking the Range Rover that pulled infront of me and braked - even though there was nothing in the middle lane hence I could undertake him - it was the fact I did this whilst calling him a ■■■■■■ with my right hand and still passing him that meant I needed a chat :grimacing:

Or like the tesco and b&q trucks who ran down the m5 on tues night at 8pm neck and neck for 27 miles

Actually it’s 49.5mph and I’m glad to see Tesco and it’s drivers are still annoying you

Off work this week so have just spent 3 nights in Scotland with the wife rather than the Merc! On the way home today down the M74 the weather was less than perfect and visibility was not good at times with standing water, yet I still came across a line of 3 cars in the middle lane all doing the same speed. The one in front was an old(ish) man leaning over his steering wheel. The two in his slipstream…yes, they were that close…had the wipers on at double speed! I overtook them doing about 75 and they weren’t going slowly. Absolutely bizarre driving.

Highway code states that passing on the left is not allowed unless the traffic on the right is moving slowly.
Or it did when I passed my test.

A few years back, I was driving my Iveco Daily to south Wales along M4.
As I go under the Bath Junction, I often pull into the middle lane to allow traffic to join as there is often traffic coming on there. I couldn’t pull over as lanes 2 and 3 were solid with traffic. As we went down the hill, the junction was clear so I kept my foot down. I did 70 all the way to m32 as the lane was clear. But lanes 2 and 3 were doing about 50. I must of undertook a good few dozen vehicles that day.
