Is middle lane driving becoming the norm now for HGV’s as well as the car drivers.
Just recently i’ve noticed more and more trucks just sitting in the middle lane when the nearside lane is free.
Admittedly its been mainly through the night when there isn’t much on the road, but i it’s still annoying when they don’t want to move over.
The problem is so bad with cars these days I just breeze by on the inside and crack on if they show no sign of yeilding. Can’t be arsed any more with these morons.
I think the problem is due to many car drivers knocking the speed back to achieve a perceived better MPG.
There seen to be loads more cars dicing with the trucks around 50-55ish. Trouble is a fair proportion are still in the middle lane mentality although they are actually running slower than the trucks
The bigger and more increasing problem I see is the car plodding along in lane 1 who immediately speeds up a couple of Mph every time you pull out to lane 2 to pass them only to slow again, that boils my ■■■■ more than the lane 2 dreamers, at least you can get past those idiots one way or another, what amazes me more with the lane 2 brigade is the penny doesn’t even drop when they have traffic passing both sides of them !!! You think they might realise they were driving like ■■■■■ at that point wouldn’t you !!

But then again, people plodding along at 50-60 in a vehicle capable of more, and causing an issue to trucks in the process, can be just as annoying when they become a mobile chicane.

It really gets to me because you have a 3 lane motorway being reduced to one lane. I give them a flash and make a point of getting back into lane one. I do hear though that they might be bring out a law to sort these drivers out because as we all know, there’s only one lane on a motorway, and that’s lane 1. Others are over taking lanes

Ithink part of the problem is the different speeds that firms are setting thier limiters at you got tesco at 50mph and others set anywhere between 50 and 56 mph and then theres the irish anything up to 70mph lol.
meaning a lot more lorries using lane two to overtake. I came from london yesterday to glasgow in my coach sat behind a line of 4 lorries trying to overtake in lane two it took 12 miles for everyone to get past one driver behind me got so frustrated he came past in lane 3 causing even more chaos with cars building up behind him. The driver in lane 1 should have lifted his foot to help out.
Tesco is apparently set @ 49.5mph, in my eyes it should be illegal to have speed limiters set @ any less than 56mph. Had something gone horribly wrong with all you large vehicles clustered together, chilling thought…
I kept my distance it was lashing down with rain loads of spray yes dread to think what could have happened if one person would have had to brake quickly.
your are right motorways are high speed roads and should remain as such driving at 50mph is not a good idea its causing more frustration more lorries and coaches in lane 2 for longer periods and then there are car drivers who wont use lane 3 for some strange reason they will sit in lane 2 for miles behind a lorry before they will use lane 3 then when lane 2 is clear they wellie it undertaking cars in lane 3 .
This thread seems to be going off on a tangent. The OP asks:
gazzah:
Is middle lane driving becoming the norm now for HGV’s as well as the car drivers…
As with many other threads the original question has been turned 180 degrees.
What tends to be forgotten by truck drivers…and it’s a pity… is that the road networks weren’t built for the exclusive use by lorries.
Yes we know that the modern mode of road transport today is governed by amongst other things…very tight collection and delivery times. An understandable concern for truck drivers and their respective haulage company. But… it is of no concern to the average motorist and nor should it be. If truck drivers are inconsiderate to each other in their daily travels why should motorists who have their own reasons for being on the road take the blame for any reason? After all we each and everyone of us use the roads for our own particular purpose.

+5 it nearly happens everyday and last week I had a truck do it to me twice once when I pulled over to let him on the motorway and then about 5 miles later there was a small bump on the otherside he slowed down to rubberneck I moved over got my cab passed his cab then he went again unreal.

If I have my History correct Motorways were built to faciltate freight movement around the county…not for Grandad Joe to sit in the middle lane doing 45mph!!!

You still don’t get it do you?? Jumping in with both feet.
The OP is complaining about HGV DRIVERS/TRUCKS doing “45mph” and holding the traffic up… not Grandad Joe. FFS!
