Messed up on my licence application

Sent my licence renewal off on 17/3 as soon as I passed my medical, DVLA receieved it recorded on 20/3.
Got a brown envelope through the door on Monday thinking it was my licence.
Turns out I had missed ticking one box :unamused: , so they sent it back…(no excuses from me, entirely my own fault) …but it was nearly a fortnight that they had sat on it on the other hand.
Licence has since ran out.

My guvnor collared me this morning telling me I can not drive until I get a letter off DVLA confirming application is being/has been processed. I argued that I was covered while application is pending.
Anyway, to cut a long story short we disagreed and things got a bit heated…shall we say.

Got home, turns out he is right, …as it has expired, I can not drive a truck until they confirm my application has been granted and/or processed, DVLA says could take another 3 weeks, (but unlikely)
So have to ring them every morning to find out (that will be fun in it’s self as it takes 15 mins of phone hell to get through to relavent dept each time :unamused: )

So guess who had to ring his boss up when I got home, to eat humble pie, admit being wrong, and apologise for going off on one.

So I could be on a bit of a rest for a few days.

Me and the wife are going away until Wed for short break, so as a bit of a bonus I’ve told her she will have to do the driving …as I’ve convinced her I can’t drive the car either.

If she’s driving you might as well have a beer then! :grimacing:

FTFY

You and Dozy could always meet up and tell driving licence war stories to each other.

■■■■■ but some time off isn’t a bad thing and at least you’re not going to be moping around the house at home. Enjoy your break, hope you’re going somewhere where there’s some sun.

cant you go onto dvla www and print off “entitlement to drive”

That’s the whole point mate, I sent the app off on time, messed up on the questionaire, but got it returned 2 weeks later. In the meantime my licence date has expired and they have not got around to processing it which could take 3 weeks.
So basically I aint entitled until the process starts within those 3 weeks.

Surely you are not an alias of Dozy that we have missed!
But in reality
■■■■ happens to all of us, more often as we age in my opinion.
Enjoy the beer and the wife’s driving

Thank you mate.
But it’s a short break in UK, planning a sun hol later, may well be brought forward if licence takes 3 weeks.

You Sod, I have just spit beer all over my iPad !

Did they give you an envelope with a code on the front? If so use that as it’ll speed things up as it doesn’t need to go through the initial checks.

Had similar prob when doctor didnt fill in my initial medical proerly but was only a few days until licence returned.

As for not being able to drive anything - I hope she doesn’t know about this forum.

Cheers Rob you’ve given me an idea for getting some time off next year…or lot are real sticklers for restricting the numbers of drivers off at any one time. Getting a day off at short notice is well nigh impossible and my birthday falls in peak hols season… :grimacing:

Sent the envelope (with code) back with the completed form…never thought. :unamused:

As for the wife driving,…she never learns man.

When we first got married I told her she had to do ALL the weekend driving… cos my ‘time was up’
It went on for months until I saw her one night while we were in the pub talking to my mate, him spitting his beer out laughing, and her looking over at me wanting to kill me.
You would think she would know me by now.

I’ll send you a bill for my fee.

Yes Rob…same situation…last year had the medical ( ha ha …its only filling in a bloody form innit )…got sent back twice…cos the doctor forgot to sign one part, then he forgot to date stamp it Grrr

This year, i sent it off in December…lost of messing around with the hospital…consultant and his secretary decided to take seperate holidays…then i failed the treadmill test by 3 minutes, but according to my consultant, i did get 100% heart stressed…blod pressure and the other bits were all ok, and nothing to stop me driving a HGV…anyway all got sent off to DVLA…they sent a letter out 2 days ago, saying they have received my reports, they will pass them on…the letter states that they have made an initial assessment of my fitness to drive…and the info they have received has been referred to their team of qualified doctors…their doctors can make a decision based on info received, however they may require further information from me, or my GP, or other medical professionals. This is to better understand my medical condition, and how this impacts on my ability to drive safely, these investigations will take some time to complete, and will keep me updated of progress. To me this is absolute crap, they have my medical reports, they have the results of the treadmill, from a highly qualified Heart consultant, who is one of the best in the country, so they have all the info they need…what they do need however, is a decent switchboard, and doctors qualified enough to understand what a consultants position is, and that is way above any doctor they have in the DVLA… rant over… …so far its taken them 5 months.

Yet I for one was allowed to keep driving for over five months when the DVLA were ‘renewing’ mine a couple of years ago. I knew mine expired on the 5th July and was expecting to recieve the renewal forms. It got to 15 days before my entitlement ran out and I phoned them to ask where my forms had got to. They apologised and sent forms through 3 days later.

12 days to go, arranged a medical, got that done and that left 6 days. I sent the forms off, they received them and had arranged for me to go for the stress test on the magic runway at the hospital where I had my bypass operation. In the meantime I enquired as to my being able to carry on driving with no valid physical licence and they said…no problem. the renewal was pending.
Various other bits of paper arrived regarding permission to access my medical files. I enquired again about driving and was told to carry on. The next month i got a letter saying that my case was being reviewed, this went on until mid November when I phoned yet again and told sorry for the delay, but it will be several weeks before a decision is made, you can keep on driving. The next day a letter came telling me that my HGV was being renewed, I read ‘revoked’… I was that wound up! Two days after that, my renewed licence dropped through the letterbox.

I really dont how someone like me can keep driving while waiting for the medical board to make up their minds, and Rob who seems healthy enough cannot drive…it don’t make sense!

Did mine a couple of weeks ago. No dramas from me, perfect first time and got it back in 7 days [emoji4]

Don’t get me started on DVLA medical board

I bet I can trump you on this, those ■■■■■■■■ took my licence away for 5 yrs even though my consultant said I was OK.
