Message from Ian Rycroft-E.C.Transport

Hi Ian,
Its a long shot I know, but, I took a sequence of large photos of myself and Martin loading a digger in France in the 80’s. I have lost the negatives and wondered if you still had a set I could copy.
I hope you are well and its a pleasure to hear you are ok.
Tony Miller.

Windy , Ian died last year.

Gettaway Kerbut! He Skyped me last year before the summer, are you able to give any more details? He was telling me about a Blast safety device he had devized with a military mate of his. Look it up on U tube.

Gazzer
He died last September and was buried in Shaftsbury, I did not know until Steve Tremaine who was 2nd in charge of GBE in Cherbourge sent me two links to tell of his death. If I can get hold of Steve (stavros on here ) I will ask him to post them

Thank you Kerbut. If it is sensitive PM me. A sad loss. Not everyones cup of tea but always good to me.

Gazzer
Have just sent Steve an Email asking him to post on here the item he forwarded to me earlier this year.

bournemouthecho.co.uk/…/91 … AN_RYCROFT -

Hope that works Gazzer (I am not very good at these link things )

Edit, Well that doesn’t work , I found it by Googleing, Ian Rycroft, Shaftsbury

And here:

Edit: scroll to bottom of the page

VERY illuminating kerbut! Thank you for that.

I hope the circumstances will come out. he was involved in security in Iraq and was moving on to Afghanistan when we spoke but was also hankering for returning to the UK (a farm in Scotland?) and resuming transport operations in some form or another.

I’m sure I have the link for “his” blast protection invention somewhere, if not the video itself but then “he” may have sold it on to a bigger player in the field. There is one very similar on u tube (Austrian blind style) but the video is nowhere near as good as the ones he sent me. Very HD, you can see the shock wave arriving before the heat and the blinds closing to protect the window.

hi all is there any body out there that rember ablack bererus sleeper dodge belonging to rycroft.i exspect martin will longist seving driver

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I have finally logged in to this excellent forum.Having left the Uk and International transport scene some years ago,the site gives an excellent insight into the present state of UK and European haulage.‘‘Plus ca change’’

Having spent some time in Iraq,in both the Security and Haulage sectors,I noted the lack of regulation in both. Those with a 'can do’attitude got on.Some of the others were killed. An extreme example,I know, but one that holds lessons.certainly moving explosives and doing heavy haulage, was dependent only on the equipment and the drive of the staff,to get things done. The profit motive was also strong.

There were many kind comments on the E.C.Transport area of this site, which I much appreciated. Some of the unkinder commentators have been identified-and should consider their positions!

I have considered re-entering the haulage industry, but,at present, have only dipped my toe in the water. If I can find something really specialised to do,I will certainly have a go.

Greetins to all who know me-Carry on the good work!!

B Rgds
