Mercedes cruise control

To all merc masters, I’m in an Actros 16 plate, my cruise control won’t go above 52.8 mph (this is the same as 80kph) i need those 3mph, lol I think that this must be a setting, but can’t find where to change it any ideas.

You are on eco mode, right stick on steering wheel press end, it will go through modes(eco, normal and manual)

No 52.8kmh isn’t the same as 80kmh it’s actually 85kmh on the tacho…
Most of our Actros’ are limited to 85 with the odd few actually at 90

Pardon my ignorance but has anyone actually checked the trucks speedometer against a GPS device?
I always remember that new drive tyre seemed to give you an extra 5kph.

No need to check against GPS, they have a mandatory 2 yearly calibration to +/- 2.5% accuracy. If you got an extra 5KPH out of a new set of tyres then someone hasn’t calibrated the tacho properly because that’s double the tolerance allowed at 56MPH/90KPH and tyre wear is taken into account when calibrating.

Rob Roy is the resident actros expert and he loves it he will be along to explain it all to you

Our units used to bumble along at bang on 54 (gps speed, 90km on speedo) straight from the dealers when new (15plate)… the 2 year calibration came and they went in to the MAN dealer… came out at bang on 56mph… along with increased fuel usage! Instead of now sitting at 88 +2 -2, which used to be the old 53mph, I sit at 85 +5 -2 in A economy…(85 +5 -3 is default but I feel it goes into eco-roll a bit to early)…11mpg is a breeze now while the others are happy to gain the few extra mins on the limiter and return 9.5 - 10mpg in A mode so atm, I’m old blue eyes!! I found the seating ok but takes some sorting out…I have the steering column right up & back and work the seat to what’s comfortable… base cushion right out, near on maximum bounce and the other front lever activated to ‘stop the bottoming out’ apparently and adjust the top half of the seat (with the handle behind the left shoulder)… day driver likes to ‘pump the seat up’, making it a bit of a ■■■■■■■■■■■ feel…I like to spread myself out a bit so dump all the air out! As for mid-lift, some of our drivers don’t know how to activate it for a tight reverse, they just try the normal ‘lift’ which obviously doesn’t work if heavy and out of those that do know how to lift it tend to switch the engine off to drop it again instead of just pressing the ‘stop’ button to drop it again when in a straight line and before reaching the bay… I like mine level before reaching the bay/applying handbrake/being reloaded… apologies for the drivel btw!!!

Cheers for that, I’m an agency driver so I’ve been in the depot bike (1000000 kms scania) since then but in the actros tonight and your answer was spot on so cheers again

Unless they have changed since they got bought out, Keedwell’s used to be limited to 52.8 as Stuart (is that right?) thought it was more economical

Actrosman is this figure correct?

52.8 and struggling to overtake? Knock off cruise control, pedal to the metal and engage REVERSE! Straight to 56, BUT only for the overtake.  It does work

Try that with a manual box!

I think you misunderstood me,
Yes calibration and all that of the geared drivetrain but the end result is, literally where the rubber meets the road. If our tractor was calibrated with old tyres that were cut down to the wires to 90kph. Then fit brand new rubber then the geared circumference is going to be greater, therefore giving a higher actual speed with the same displayed speed at the tacho head.
Hench my “seems” having chomped across the M62 everyday and getting passed by everyman and his dog until the unit went in for new hoops, then it was my time at the elephant races.

My gaffer is in the market for a minimum of 4 new trucks, and we had Merc in during the week, and I asked the salesman about this 52.8 malarky, and he said that Merc have done away with it and now all new ones are at 56.
