Mercedes-benz NG and SK's Trucks

hope these ok

I passed my test at Rollrights, Enstone on an SK 1617 (G reg). It was so easy to drive I reckon thats why I only got 4 minor faults  It’s a shame I never drove one professionally, as I reckon their 8wheel tippers look the business.

Hi Nathan
Your right about the 8 wheeler Mercs mate, they don’t just look the business if your on muckaway they are, they have the ground clearance like the old Maggie’s, most trucks on site work get stuck because they bottom out on the diff casings or front axel beams, I once saw an Amey’s Lad cabbed Albion 6 legger so far down the doors wouldn’t open, the driver couldn’t get out :open_mouth: , I went into Hills tip at Barn Ground Aston Keynes years ago with an old Maggie 8 legger, there were 4 of Hills FL’s stuck the Drott had bellied and was going nowhere, the old Maggie went in reversed up tipped and drove out no problem, and an 8 legger Merc would have done the same.
cheers
John.

Lockharts bought some SKs off Hills, they did have around 5 2/3 on m regs and the others and a sole Scania on R plates. The Scania’s been repainted and so’ve the newer Mercs (haven’t seen the M’s around for a while but i’ve heard they’re in Lockharts’ yard) so it proves how well suited they are for the job.

more mercs sk

Hi Jamie great pictures again. What got you into the Mercs ? Most people get into Volvos , Scanias etc . Its really nice too see the old ones on here. When i get a new scanner I will put my Merc leaflets and pictures etc on here . Keep up the good work . Tony

OK chaps, I’ve had a look at some of my old pics of Merc SKs that I’ve driven.

Here we go on a little random tour of some of my European trips in the 80s:

First up, I’m in Switzerland on my way to Milan:

At the top of the Simplon Pass, also in Switzerland

Just got off a ferry in Fredrikshavn, Denmark

I delivered these pilings to a project to divert a river near Udine, Italy.

Unloading in River Road, Barking

Squeezing into the last space to load in Como, Italy

On a ferry for the short trip back to the Italian mainland from Messina, Sicily

Loading at Maenhout’s, Oostende, Belgium

I delivered this car to the Bologna motor show. (It is an SK pulling the red tilt — honest!! )

Somehwere in Bavaria, Germany heading for Suben, and eventually to Vienna.

In the queue to go over the Brenner from Italy into Austria, it’s a Sunday, so nobody is going anywhere today.
Those familiar with SKs might recognise the mudguard at the bottom left of the picture!! :grimacing: :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ve got some more pics of the SKs I’ve driven, but I can’t find them at the moment. :frowning:

here is some more

jamie have you got any pics of mat transports 1635s

i will see what i have got

After looking through my old photos, ive found this one that i had new in about 1996. This photo was taken on its maiden voyage at St Nicholas Court Farm near Margate loading spuds.

Heres another at the butty wagon.

Found these two pictures today:-

If they were I assume they wouldn’t be able to read your message! , however, as you can see I haven’t and have posted pictures succesfully earlier.
