Why is it hated so much on here? I’ve been using a hired 56 reg 26t curtainsider (with hi roof/sleeper) and it’s a pretty good truck. It’s not overly powerful at 280bhp and it’s straight 8speed 'box takes some getting used to but I don’t see it as a crap motor.
It hasn’t got the badge image or kudos for the modern driver, got to be Scania to be a cool dude.
I agree with you, nothing wrong with them at all apart from the auto is carp same as all the autos except for Volvo.
of course its got the badge...3 pointed star....badge. it
s just that it has fundamental floors, which in this age,and given who make it,is totally unacceptable.i know it`s a fleet spec motor, but so is the fm.
there is no comparison.ditto renault premium…g cab scanny, daf cf
Had one for about 2 years, excellent motor, IMO best auto box around.
Would have one again, no problem.

It was originally launched as a sort of antidote to the Actros.
The Actros had been marketed as a very hi-tech truck and when it came out was not without it’s problems. In fact a Merc person later admitted to me that if Merc had just bee a small company making buses and trucks like Scania, it would have put them out of business.
The original Axor was designed to appeal to the British supermarkets as n no-frills tractor with a straight-6 engine and manual gearbox that anyone could drive. It had a sleeper cab so it would be worth something as an export when the supermarket had finished with it.
It ended up rather in the shadow of the DAF CF and Volvo FM, which were technically as ‘no frills’ but had far more driver appeal.
The Axor name was then used to describe everything that Merc subsequently made that wasn’t an Atego but didn’t have a V engine.
And now it’s no more; replaced by the Antos. I don’t think it was ever designed as a truck that a driver would love…lots of bits of it just seemed too cheap for that. You are left in no doubt that you are ‘at work’ when you sit in one, wheras you feel a bit more pampered in a DAF CF or Volvo FM (or for that matter, a late-model Foden Alpha, which I thought they’d got just about right when they stopped making them).
Mercedes Actros is an expensive truck. Axor was developed to be the opposite, and can’t you just tell how opposite it is. I’d rather drive a 1990 Seddon Atkinson Strato.
Weve christened our new fleet of em ‘Hitlers Revenge’.

I agree.
They are cheap and nasty, horrible things.
Does it have a comfortable seat?
Does it have a comfortable bunk?
Does the digicard go in without buggering you about because it’s a stonebridge iccky one?
Is it an automatic, so you can drive with one hand, and… eat your sandwich with the other?
Does it have a night heater that is exclusively set for you to programme, 'cos no one else knows how to work it?
Quit moaning about axors. They are not air traffic control like scumias, skid around and around like volvos, break down all the time like dafs, or can’t get the parts when they DO break down like seddons. Then there’s Renaults that you need a 'kin ladder and scaffolding to get into or clean…
If I’ve missed your particular motor, stick your pet hates down below…
I like Axor, and I prefer the automatic to the straight box and all - so there!
I hate them, in my opinion they are ugly, unsafe, uncomfortable to drive (with dodgy mirrors & awkward seating position), flimsy/poor build quality, poor dealer support with never ending breakdowns, good riddance to bad rubbish…
Like axors in a riged form ie gritters not bad dose the job and good stealer support
I drove an Axor once. I would’ve preferred a wheelbarrow.
Had one on hire for a few weeks before christmas, couldn’t knock it really Comfy enough, auto box not quite i shift but pretty good, night heater was a bit complicated but soon figured it, pulled ok. Worked if hard over the hills without bother or having to put my coffee down.
Seems to me some princesses on here need a reality check and some driving lessons. I’d of happily [zb]ed off abroad in it as easily as my Volvo.

This!^^^^
The Axor is an example of a truck engineered to a price, with no regard to the currently available technologies. Sure it works, but it is inherently dangerous in wet or icy conditions. It must wear drive tyres far more than it’s better engineered competitors, because of it’s inability to accurately distribute weight over it’s drive axle, which a simple load valve or slip sensor would easily sort out.
The Axor was created because the large retail fleets didn’t want to she’ll out for the Actros and MB decided they could build a 3rd world truck and sell it at 1st world prices. Technically is no further advanced than one of the old 1418’s from the early 70’s.
Personally, my hatred of the Axor has nothing to do with badge envy. I’ve always been a big MB fan, but this vehicle is dangerous under normal circumstances and it shouldn’t be allowed on the road in my opinion.
Driven about 150 different Axor’s only ever broken down twice (simple roadside repairs) designed at a price for a certain market sector not the best by a long way but good for the target market.
Generally disliked by 2 distinct groups £7.50 an hour glory boys and 5 minute veterans.
I happen to like them, not so big that you need to go mountaineering to get in the cab, enough grunt for the job.
they are just right for the job they’ve been designed for. They are ok for maybe a couple of nights out a week. I wouldn’t want to tramping around europe in one but then thats what the actros is for.
If they are used for what they are designed for they are fine.
If I had the funds to go o/d I would quite happily get one and put it on containers for maritime
As our friend said,Hitlers revenge, for a company that manufacture some fantastic cars,to put their name to a piece of uncomfortable nasty crap like the Axor is beyond words! the Actros is a world apart.the one i drove was less than a year old,and given the choice a SedAk would have felt like a promotion!
Is Axor not the german word for junk?
I found the axor a good , drove a refrigerator trailer. Had no problems, good to drive, & I’d drive one again
This operator is very pleased with them.

I had an 8wheeler on demo and found it as good as any other 8wheeler, Dave. Good driving position, good steering lock, quiet, easy to clean interior (just a rag I’m not a Mr Sheen guy) and storage to put dirty clothes, boots, ppe and sleep inducing company memos.
