Only ever driven axor and MAN (above 7.5t) and I would take the axor any day. My only real gripe with the axor is the engine hump near your left foot and it’s a bit cramped climbing in to the bunk.

The bunk does look thinner (depth-wise) than a Daf CF…

Weve christened our new fleet of em ‘Hitlers Revenge’.
They’ve come a long way from the SK which we called,“Hitlers revenge,or The German Atki”!.
I drove a 55 reg 18 tonner on hire a couple of years ago. It was ok a bit bland but the bunk was the most uncomfortable thing I’d ever slept in. I was happy to get my cf space cab back.
Mate of mine has got a “hacksaw” he reckons it’s a cheap cost effective motor but nobody wants to drive it, so it always falls back to him to take it out!,last year when he had a day off, as a favour for a mate I took it up to Wolverhampton for him, had a numb bum from the rock hard drivers seat for about two days after! (a kill or cure treatment for “Farmer Giles”)
At least the axor doesnt have that gutless piece of crap V6 that the oh so wonderful actros laughingly calls a “power plant”
Actros crap truck with a crap donkey pulling it.
we have axors, personally no prob with them as for observation i think dafs are worse, the 5-7 yr old MB are in workshop a lot less then the 12 month renault we have…

Does it have a comfortable seat?
Does it have a comfortable bunk?
Does the digicard go in without buggering you about because it’s a stonebridge iccky one?
Is it an automatic, so you can drive with one hand, and… eat your sandwich with the other?
Does it have a night heater that is exclusively set for you to programme, 'cos no one else knows how to work it?Quit moaning about axors. They are not air traffic control like scumias, skid around and around like volvos, break down all the time like dafs, or can’t get the parts when they DO break down like seddons. Then there’s Renaults that you need a 'kin ladder and scaffolding to get into or clean…
If I’ve missed your particular motor, stick your pet hates down below…
I like Axor, and I prefer the automatic to the straight box and all - so there!

Skid around like volvos I’ve always drove them and never had that problem they have excellent traction, the axor has the worst traction of any truck I’ve ever driven

In rigid tipper guise they don’t! If a CF driver just mentions diff locks the Volvo lads get out and sort out the ropes, we’re not sure if it’s to get towed out or to find the nearest tree!
Personally I don’t dislike the Axor, it’s a no frills truck to do a job. I’d rather take a DAF CF though.
Dave the Renegade:
This operator is very pleased with them.
If more of them looked as good as these i think peoples opinions would be completely different.
Tolerable in rigid form and comparable with a lot of the competition. Poor in comparison in artic form definitely not a cut price Actros, shocking in 4x2 manual from. Normally used to look forward to a blast in a manual but not in the Axor.
Having said that no modern truck is completely unbearable so would still have one at the right money but would have to be cheaper than equivalent Daf/Renault/Man/Iveco.

Yep the rigids drive differently and not the worst ive drove
They say you cant polish a turd, well i like to keep my Axor clean

Driven about 150 different Axor’s only ever broken down twice (simple roadside repairs) designed at a price for a certain market sector not the best by a long way but good for the target market.Generally disliked by 2 distinct groups £7.50 an hour glory boys and 5 minute veterans.
I’ve only ever had trouble with blown bulbs on axors. I’ve yet to break down in one.
I broke down in a seddon once, and ended up doing a impromptu night out, because they could not get the parts - and this back in their 90’s heyday to boot!
Dafs… OK to drive, and OK to break down in if you’re being paid by the hour & paid POA, such as at RM.
Renaults - I’m a tall bloke, so climbing a ladder to get in is more of a problem for ■■■■■■■■■ that want to waylay me at the services getting a craned neck…
Then there’s Volvos. These are supposed to be these fantastic snow-worthy tractors that’ll drive through 17 feet of snow in darkest siberia without even caking up the wheels…
I’ve always found you put your foot down a little too much with a less than fully loaded trailer on, and the damned thing snakes about. AND the seat is designed for Willie Carson rather than anyone above 5 foot tall, judging by the way it scrapes the back…
The modified Axors would look alot better with the acres of greyness colour coded
The last crowd I worked for got three Axors all ADR spec with auto boxes about two years ago and none of the lads liked them compared to the Volvo autos we used,The problems we had was the auto box changing down gears from 12/8 while braking causing the truck to over rev and shoot right into the red band also the bulbs would blow on a regular basis and we were not allowed to change a bulb due to the contract the company signed with Mercedes.
Also the lift axel would stay down once you hitched up to a trailer from memory I think any weight over 5,000 kgs and the lift axel would drop,The only thing we liked was the arm rests on the drivers seat.

+1
I find that the auto box just can’t seem to make up it’s mind as to what gear it wants to be in . Over revving on the way up taking one gear at a time until you flip the paddle to push it up a gear - then it decides to take 3 . On the way down it wont change down at all so when you hit the gas it then has to think what gear it wants and then get into it - by then its to late and its revving its head off again. Hitlers revenge - best name I ever heard for it .
