I’ve driven a few of these over the years and I’ve always found the clutch to be heavy and the brakes to be crap. I have just bought myself one to take my race bikes to the track and I wondered if there was any way to improve the brakes and make the clutch a bit easier to depress.
cheers.

Just something you will need to get used to I’m afraid. I ain’t a mechanic, but if my memory serves me right, the heavy clutch is something to do with it being a twin plate something or other. The brakes might seem rubbish to you, but I can assure you, when you really need them, they work 100%.

Partial sponsorship! ever hear the saying " never look a gift horse in the mouth"?
If any one has any serious suggestions for boosting the brakes they would be welcome
Could all ways do a flintstones on it lad,
hmmm. if no one comes up with something sensible. im thinking of tying an anchor to one of the cab handles and chucking it out the window when the lights change to amber!
Just a thought, leave the late braking for the track and just drive accordingly when in the Merc
You could try messing with the load sensing valve so that it thinks it’s heavier than it is, then you’ll get more braking force, but pushing the pedal down a little bit more has pretty much the same effect, so probably a waste of time. Have you had the brakes tested? It could have a set of spurious pads on it, maybe a swap for softer pads would help out

No thank ■■■■, why? Have you driven through Chicago recently? Doesn’t really matter where you drive, brakes work exactly the same
You wanted an answer, you got two, it could have brake pads that are too hard, it may need some adjustment to the load sensing valve. Both are reasonable assumptions, they’re the first things I’d look at in your case, but if that doesn’t help, take it into the nearest Merc dealer, I’m sure they’ll help you out
Every Merc I’ve ever driven needed a bit of a shove on the stoppers.
