Massive load in Aber gets stuck

This place is a nightmare, :open_mouth: really feel for poor driver… :open_mouth:

bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-mid-wales-35383074

The roads upto it are rubbish aswell :unamused:

I would have thought the route would have been well defined to the driver beforehand without having to rely on a blody satnav!

That load would have been subject to ESDAL, and the route would have been chosen & submitted to Police at least 2 clear days prior,
What the hell was he doing following a ShatNav■■?

Cabbage !!!

FTW

Before the orange peeler arrives and says otherwise

these agency drivers are everywhere nowadays :frowning:

I agree but, what I would say, is most police forces attitude and competence towards abnormal loads these days is poor. Previously, the coppers responsible would know immediately what roads are suitable, what roadworks there are etc. when a route is submitted.

These days I get the impression they just assume that most movements are being done by specialist hauliers, who know what they’re doing, and it’s a rubber stamping exercise.

you beat me to the reply I was going to say, surely planners worked with police to sort the route out

The route would have had to be approved, and the transport manager or abnormal load planner must have gone to give it all a measure up. If this isn’t the case, not the driver’s fault, as long as we was following the permitted route. Although he should have also known whether or not he could get round the bend.

He hadn’t got much choice in the Aberystwyth area to go another route with low bridges etc.

That should have been an escorted load and the ■■■■■■ would have had the route, after all since escorting was taken over by professionals rather than the police they really should know what they are doing!

Agency flip-flops now doing STGO work. The mind boggles :open_mouth:

At my work every now and then I do plant, as the boss says “it’s still just driving a lorry”.

Yeah but for this type of load movement the route should’ve been sorted in advance.

If drivers are now following sat navs doing STGO work then that really is extracting the urine.

Why do we think driver was following sat nav? Just because it says in the article, written by some journalist who hasn’t a clue about movement orders that will have been agreed in advance.

Because “witnesses” say so. In other words, the “witnesses” saw that the driver had a satnav in the truck (maybe pre-programmed with the approved route) and assumed that that is what caused the problem.

Looking up the location on Google Maps, it is the main A-road through town, although there is a question as to why the driver didn’t use the bypass.

In the first pic, the trailer wheels are already on the lane-dividing line. Referring back to Google Maps, that means that the trailer is already a car width out into the road - presumably because there are cars parked in the parking bay. If the cars weren’t there, so the driver could use the whole width of the road on the approach, it might go round.

Not all agency drivers are as perfect as you are they!!!

That place is renowned for cars parking on yellow lines, even doubles.
That coul’nt helped matters :unamused:

Here we go again not all agency drivers are ■■■■ poor at the job.
