I need to move some wide cabins on the 7th and 8th and although I have markers boards on the truck (canvas and steel) I’m looking for a decent way of attaching them to the front and rear of the cabins, I think the cabins are steel and I did have the idea of strong magnets?
I’m just wondering if anyone knows of the best way to attach them.
The markers we have at the moment have long lengths of elastic on, and we use them for the blade on our dozer. Although I’m sure we could manage with these I’m sure they will blow about and be a right pain.
If their jacklegs I would use the canvas (soft plastic) one`s with long ropes tied to the leg so the marker in the right place, then tie the third rope off tight to oppersite side off deck.
Or duct tape them on!
I haven’t got a good photo, but this is the trailer they will be on, they will sit on the swan neck and will be supported at the back by a “H” post we had made for supporting containers.
Elliotts cabin have stick on ones , or you could attach the boards to a bit of 4X2, then nail it to the timbers on the deck theyll not budge then. Speaking from experience.
A bit expensive though as I would need around 12! They would even work on the blade of our dozer!
The other thing to consider is with a force of 110kg how do you plan to get the buggers off?? and srorage could be fun
God knows how then send them out aswell

was just gunna say vosa would be very interested if they seen that magnet lol
I would find them easy to store on the hiab, just not sure if they are ideal, they need to be strong enough to hold on and not blow off, but weak enough to pull off.
I probably could get my sign guy to knock up some sticky ones, just not sure if its cost affective over a long time, or if they will even stick if the container is wet or muddy.
I don’t mind a little investment if they will be looked after, easy to use, quicker to put on and used frequently when we move wide plant or containers.
I usually carry different types of markers , flexible with long string and red & white sticky tape are the prefered options at the moment.
Personally I like to try and get the proper regulation markers on whenever possible cos some of the roads up here aint the best especially up the west coast and are even worse when there full of bloody tourists. I dont want some idiot side swiping me but then Me getting done cos my markers aint right.
Here’s what I had on the last wide one I moved.
Proper regulation ones on the front

Good advice that’s what I used to do,never had probs.
regards dave.
I have decided on this ^^ I will attach these studded magnets to the eyelets on the vinyl markers and then just stick them to the steel containers or blade of the dozer. I intend to keep the ones I have with bungees and use them for awkward loads like long overhanging pipes and floodlighting columns.
I have taken the advice on sticky tape too, for when we have a fibreglass cabins to move.

Thanks for all your help!!
FWIW, I had some vinyl markers mad for me by “M and N Canvas” of Ecclesfield, near Sheffield. £25.00 for a handed pair, heavy duty with eyelets and conforming to C and U. I use studded magnets with a 70 kg pulling force (normally used for taxi roofsigns) to hold them on which came from “Guy’s Magnets” via ebay. However, they don’t seem to work too well on the front of cabins. The wind swirling round the cab/hiab seems to loosen them off. Sooo, I also have a full set of rigid markes boards made from fibreglass road signs that, err, fell into my van some while back . Cut to size and painted up to conform to C and U, they’re perfect for steel cabins, they’re unbreakable, and they won’t rot, unlike wooden boards. I’ve also fitted them with the requisite marker lights so the VOSA boys have no cause for complaint. I leave the magnets bolted on permanently, but have a 10mm spanner handy so I can fit rope ties if needed. I take them off and stow them away at night as sadly, I find it easier not to trust anybody.
