Maritime the last straw

I fail to see the issue of the camera being on you when your driving! Unless your acting unprofessionally then you deserve to be taken to task

Toddy2:
Maybe the accident on the M1 J16 North last Wednesday has added weight to this decision

When the Maritime Truck hit another truck up the chuff, pushed it into a UK Mail truck, that was pushed into a VW Golf, that was in turned pushed into a Jempsons

All in all, 4 trucks & 1 car
The pair in the car got out unhurt but very shaken,
The UK Mail driver, quite shaken,
The bloke behind, had a bone in his shoulder sticking through his fleece,
The Maritime Driver was screaming apparently,
Not sure of his injuries, but at least the screaming meant he was alive & his airways were clear

Sounds like a bunch of numpties all tailgating each other.

And this is the argument used in every single invasion of privacy known.

Your internet is now being recorded 100% of the time - but, it’s not a problem if you’ve got nothing to hide is it?

Have they given any reason as to why they want to record their drivers?

Spate of serious accidents where Maritime motors have rear ended other vehicles, with the most recent one the driver admitted to using his phone at the time.

They are installing them for incident investigation purposes, like the forward facing ones, not for live surveillance & I believe they will only run when the engines running.

Everybodies getting their knickers in a twist over this, but to be honest if it means all these idiots who are causing chaos on the roads & killing people by using phones and faffing with other distractions whilst driving get deterred, i’m for it. Sad state of affairs, but just another thing a minority of drivers have inflicted on everybody else.

Next they will be saying we can’t ■■■■■■■■■■ while we drive! :unamused:

Maritime are proposing to install all their vehicles with in cab CCTV to record the drivers aactivities at the wheel, this is the last bastion an invasion of personal space…!

my mate drives for maritime out of donny and it’s not a propasal as all employees got a letter last week telling them why they are fitting them. Its because of 1 person whom had been employed by them for 3 weeks as a 4 on 4 off night man based at bardon ran into the back of 5 stationary vehicles on the m1 at Northampton at 51 mph and has admitted he was on the phone too his wife at the time of the accident.

It’s chilling how some here are so eager to bend over, racing headlong to the bottom.

If Maritime have a problem with numpties ramming people up the arse, simple answer stop employing numpties its a complicated alternative, pay the proper rate, treat your people with respect and cherry pick…or do the other thing and continue the downhill event.

where i work all the new trucks are having them fitted at the insistence of the insurance company whom give a good discount for having them fitted.
as for the invasion of privacy am afraid that dont work as the cab is classed as a work place and most of the cameras switch off when the ignition switch is off

it not only maritime though, insurance firms are now starting too insist that they are fitted and give a discount where they are, i just had one fitted too my car and got £75 discount off my premium for the year

Night man and 51 mph = Bordem. I nearly sideswiped by an Argos truck a few years ago. Yes it was set at 51 and he’d started at silly o’clock in the morning maybe there’s a coincidence there. For me that would be step too far and I walk

maybe boredom caused him too phone the wife, that was a bloody expensive phone call

Nope - seen the footage, they were stationary when Maritime spanked them from behind

What?, a camera trained on you in your own car?

Will save them paying out £1000s if you have an accident and the footage shows you yawning 5 mins before and they won’t pay because they will claim you drive tired ect ect,do you really think a camera pointing at the driver is there for any other reason but to help the insurance company get out of paying out on a claim?!But,you saved £75…go you!!

Id guarantee if this was my depot half of them would be ripped out on the first day  Godsake my depot the drivers don’t even like ffc in the truck and quite a few have been vandalised. I actually quite like having a ffc camera.

I think interior cameras are gross invation of privacy and the line in the sand is being crossed there imo

Today’s in cab footage would have been entertaining, as I constantly wrestled with a worn out range change box… “Come on you bast… go in bloody one of them”… Great when the traffic started to move again and I had an empty lane to myself on the M6 :imp:

The sad reality though is this… what’s more likely:

Companies getting their acts together and paying proper rates and working to sensible shift lengths, thus attracting more professionals of a decent calibre into the industry.

or

In cab cameras deterring the many muppets from ■■■■■■■ about with gadgets whilst driving and/or driving tired?

We can all dream about the first one, but the latter will make the much more immediate improvement to road safety. I don’t like the idea of in cab cameras, but I can’t argue with their purpose. They are an unfortunate sign of the times.
