Growing up i heard my dad grumble and moan so bitter about her that it kinda of rubs of on you. But you read about her watch documentarys and you come to your own conclusion.
For me she was one of the greats, when she spoke people listened. Very churchill esq. Not like your cameroons and browns they have nothing about them, a empty shell if you will. She was very much a victim of her time in regards to the miners and steel both unsustainable in modern Britain. She also seen off the bloody argies and took a hard stance against the IRA.
Her biggest error was the poll tax. Now make no mistake a tax was needed but it was a tax on the poor and extremely unfair. Then her party later tweaked it to become the now council tax a much fairer tax based on property price.
Right now today you see britain getting the pished ripped out it by all and sundry, would it happen with her at the helm i very much doubt it.

Don’t forget most of those ‘documentaries’ have been made by her sympathisers. The miners were the victims in this case together with every energy consumer who’s now reliant on overpriced imported gas and coal for their energy needs. As for the Argies yeah right like all the rest she was very brave in facing a tin pot country and a load of frightened Conscripts but the Brits don’t seem so keen in facing down the threat from China and North Korea. No surprise that situation hasn’t been helped by Thatcher’s idea of giving British jobs and transferring British wealth to China and thereby North Korea to help build up it’s arsenal of weapons now ranged against us.

I paraphrased your quote, I totally agree with you, she had the courage of her convictions, and that was her strength. For every one that respected her, there will be an equal amount who will dance for joy at the news of her passing.
I for one will raise a glass to her this evening, even though one or two of her policies have had a unwanted direct bearing on my life.
Miners and steel workers along with the dockers were victims of their own greed and under Maggie I was allowed to buy my house of the council allowing me to get on the property ladder, so how was that taking from the poor to give to the rich and I earned a fortune running foreign coal into the River Trent during the miners strike and never felt guilty walking back thru the picket lines after a few beers before we went to pick up another 2000 ton.
Scargill was a self centred union ■■■■■■ just like Prescot who only thought of his own financial interests so I think the outcome would have been the same. The industry was not financially viable so something had to give. Why pay £X pounds for a commodity when it can be bought for £X-Y from somewhere else.
Who on here buy their skiddies from Asda or Tosco for pennies instead of paying pounds for British made underkegs? Same thing but smaller scale (apart from CF cos if his arse is half the size of his head …)
I moved to Yorkshire just after the miners strike, and what she did to the pits and all that worked at them, divided the communities that still bear the scars today.
Places like Barnsley and the Dearne Valley, Orgreave at Sheffield etc, are shadows of their former self, but make no mistake about her, she had big cahunas to take on Scargill, the Argies and the unions and there is no PM since that has achieved what she did in that respect.
I wonder if we would have the open door policy that Blair gave us so all and sundry could come here and sponge off our country if she was still in No.10? I guess not.
Born in 86 I can’t say her reign particularly effected me but from what I know off her and have heard over the years I wish Cameron would have a pair off balls like she did, I’m proud to be British and would be happier if someone with a bit more guts and balls where to lead us.
