Depending on the make of head they work differently. Personally I would just keep a diary of my other work hours, and not bother trying to up load that amount of information onto your card. Vosa would be quite happy with you doing it that Way :sunglasses:

The best way of keeping records that meet the legal requirements, of none driving days in weeks that you drive to EU regulations is to record the dates and start and finish times and your name on tachograph charts or printouts.

Trying to do manual entries onto your driver card through the tachograph head is needlessly time consuming and in my opinion pointless.

Keep the written records with you for 29 days then you can bin them.

Having said that some people have said that they keep records of none driving days in a diary/book and VOSA have seen them and have been OK with it so you may want to consider that, but the legal requirement is charts/printouts, or a log book for when you’ve been on domestic rules but that probably doesn’t affect you.

I only driving every fortnight because of drivers hours rules. I have reduced rest one weekend and 45 hours plus compensation next weekend… I normaly using Siemens VDO
I have try last time but I no want carry on if I am not sure or if I am wrong.

Either there’s been a misunderstanding or they’re talking rubbish.

Read page 39 - Rules on Drivers Hours and Tachographs

The regulations 561/2006 state that seperate analogue cards or printout rolls can be used so perhaps VOSA at PB need retraining or you did not speak to a traffic examiner !!

This is the best way to do for me just keep my notebook with all my hours of o/work and breaks, and add only my printouts every time I drive into my notebook. In-stead of using 14 tacho charts or half a roll of paper in every two weeks

Well it may be best for you but technically it’s not legal, though to be honest I think it should be.

By the way you don’t have to record breaks on none driving days, just record start/finish times and you’re name and the date.

Thats why I try to find out how do manual entry on my digi card of the last two weeks my other work just to make sure eveything is correct.

Doing that is long winded and takes too long which is why there are two more easier official options

The man who I spoke with says “there is only few entries”…
But after two weeks is 25-30 min job I think■■?

Can any one explain this for me any way. Thank you

It will be very time consuming, but if you insist on doing it, it can be done. However, the actual procedure varies between different makes of tachograph (and even between different models from the same manufacturer).

Using the VDO units in our fleet (all 59-plated Dafs) the procedure is as follows:

On inserting your card at the start of Saturday’s shift, the unit will forst display the time/date the card was last withdrawn, then ask if you want to make a Manual Entry? Scroll to “Yes” then press OK.

The tacho will now show the time/date the card was last withdrawn. Use the Up/Down keys to change to the time that your shift actually finished, then press OK. The tacho will now show a flashing Mode selector - make sure it shows Other Work (Crossed hammers) and press OK. You have now recorded the end of your working day when you last used the card.

The tacho will be showing the time/date that your last driving shift finished. Use the Up/Down arrows to scroll to the minute before the start of your first shift on your “regular” job (presumably 05.59am on the Monday). Press OK. Now change the flashing Mode selector to show Rest (Bed symbol) and press OK. You have now recorded the Rest period up until you started work on Monday.

Now repeat the above instructions to record your work from 6am until breaktime on Monday morning (obviously, you set the Mode indicator to Other Work this time around).

Now repeat the same sequence to record your break (Mode selector to break/bed symbol, naturally).

Now repeat to record the second half on Monday’s shift (Mode selector to Other Work).

Now repeat to record Rest from end of shift on Monday to start of shift on Tuesday.

Then repeat the whole thing over again to record Tuesday’s work and Rest

Then repeat for Wednesday

Then repeat for Thursday

Then repeat for Friday

Then get a life and accept that it is far, far easier (and quicker) to make the required records on paper charts (a couple of quid for a box of 100) or on the back of a printout (one for each day).

So is not few entries as he said…Is go take me hour at least… :frowning:

So on beginning of my manual entry I need finish my last day when card was inserted for example 27.10.2012 and add maybe 15 min of other work.
Do I need mark break time from end of my shift till midnight■■?
If I select end of shift. Can I be able to add some more days or I go to present day when I inserted my card for example
03.11.2012 04:30 if I insert my card at this time?

For example one week of my other work must looks like:

Finish in Saturday 27.10.2012 at 14.30 (withdrwal Card)

27.10.2012 14.45 x press ok
I just finish my last day of card insertion.

Then start again from Monday 05.11.2012 till Saturday?
I dont know to I need add weekends or just go straight to Monday after Friday and do I need to write 30 min break every day■■?

Mate do yourself a favour and get some cheap charts to do the records for none driving days, what you’ve been told about having to put the times onto your card is wrong and unnecessary, worse than that it’s likely to lead to mistakes that will stay on your card and could even result in you getting infringements.

On top of that when do you intend to do these manual entries, if you do them in works time you could lose the job once the employer realises you’re wasting so much time at the start of the shift doing so many manual entries.

Like I said and as others have also said, make things easy for yourself and get some cheap charts or printing paper, my personal preference would be to use charts but …

The VOSA bod who told you that you need to do manual entries onto the card for none driving days was wrong, we’ve posted the informations that clearly states what’s needed but if you still feel that you need to listen to this VOSA person phone him and invite him to post in this thread and I’ll willingly tell him he’s wrong and point him in the directions of the relevant legal requirements, though to be honest I suspect that there could have been some misunderstanding on either your part or his.

I am going ring him back tomorrow and speak with him again, and I try ring somebody else. I ordered tacho charts already. I know that’s the waste of time in the cab to load all two weeks of other work.

I ring somebody else today and he said I don’t need write nothing on the charts because they are more likely to lost. So only notebook… But I am still going to buy box of charts. Is anyone know do I need charts for weekend when I am on my the rest■■?
