Manual Entries

I worked for a firm that paid by the tacho so card went in as soon as possible.

On one occasion I had to leave the unit at a dealer and drive a van back to yard. Took 15 min WTD break on way and wrote details on back of printout. Got an infringement for that, you just cant win.

that’s because the knob who did the download didn’t read the printout… the computer cant pick up written entries I would have just give back unsigned and written see manual written entry on print out ( Date ) .your covered and the notice cant stand on file.

manual entries are the easiest thing to do.

Exactly why you should learn how to do it properly rather than writing it on the back! I too worked for a company that would pay in the same way including paying up to 15 after the tacho was taken out, do a manual entry the next day for however long debrief would take, bit extra every week for simply learning how to do a manual entry!!

Follow rules.when drivers put card in,first must enter correct finish time of last shift.after press to rest.enter correct start time.if between last working shifr and curent day drivers was driving by analog tacho or working somewhere must put between not rest but mode “question”.si
mply.

No, the last card withdrawl time is displayed, nothing to answer to. Manual entry no, start country uk… simple, I have my full 4.5 hr / 6hr limit… dont tell me we have to input the question mark for us driving home :stuck_out_tongue:[/quote
No.if you back to base take you card out,go to transport office.you finish time in tacho must be sqte ,what you have in timrsheet…i work now from agency for some Dhl division.and they ask do manual entry for last shift first, and just after start time

When you’ve done manual entries a couple of times it’s so easy and quick I don’t see any reason not to do them.

Had no problems with a Siemens version but the Stoneridge one now is awful. I could do them but recently (had it’s 2 yearly inspection) it just goes around in a circle. I select finish time, add 5 minutes on, do all the other bits and it wont allow me to confirm entries. I wonder if something was touched during the inspection? It’s annoying, not worrying. I don’t give a toss tbh I just leave the card in for a few minutes to show other work.

Totally agree. In addition, once you are comfortable with doing them on a routine basis for a few minutes at either end of your shift it becomes second nature, so that as and when you need to make an entry for something out of the ordinary it doesn’t cause a major panic.

Trukkertone:
So, VOSA want us to input manual entries onto our digicards. ■■
why not have a page per day duplicate book with the four modes across 24 hrs ■■
we could then draw a continuous 24 hour line through the relevant modes to show what we had done and fill in our name, vehicle reg, start and finish locations, etc, etc…
WHAT ■■? It’s already been done years ago ■■?

I will always do it on the roll ■■■■■■■■ to em

Trukkertone:
all i do now is switch to rest mode for a couple of minutes at the end of my shift

That’s 100% pointless.

HTH.

I would have simply done the job properly in the first place …

Why would you? I roll into the yard, put the handbrake on, get my stuff together, get the card out, ■■■■ off home. I stop at the office on my way to the car to chuck the paperwork on the desk. Why do I need to do a manual entry? Or have we really got to the point where every driver and VOSA official thinks they need to account for every single second they’re physically at work?

If you ask a VOSA bod I’m sure they will tell you that you are supposed to account for all working time, in fact the EU suits even wrote it into the regulations

Well, it’s bloody ridiculous, that’s all, given that the whole purpose of the drivers’ hours regs is to ensure happy and relaxed drivers. I mean, I can’t think of a worse way to get drivers in the right frame of mind to spend upwards of twelve hours piloting heavy machinery around the place than making them worry about stupid and pointless things like how to account for the twenty eight seconds they spent walking from their car to the truck.

Agreed, things have gone politically bonkers at times. Really doubt VOSA would question them 28 seconds too! its as simple as this, bum in cab, card in, bum out, card out.

Relax, no-one’s going to worry about your 28 seconds

You said the last bit the wrong way round- if you get your Bum out, how do you get your card out when it’s 10 foot up in the air ?
I usually get my card out then bum out. (If I’ve remembered to get my card out first, often it’s bum out, bum back in, card out, bum out ) Lol.

To help those that arnt sure about manual entries could someone post a step by step guide on how to do it. Lets see how many drivers have different ways of doing it!

Could you clarify who should have done the job properly.
