busy?
Theres going to be a programme on Tv next week about it, think its on BBC1, asking why we are still paying the tolls!!

Simple. After using taxpayers money to build it they handed it over to big business. What did you expect to happen?
Apparently, if they made it free, too many people would use it and the jams would be worse…

So by that logic, it’s not a fee but another tax.

Yup!!! And something else for the Government to sell to foreign investors like everything else that’s been sold to the highest bidder!!

I think im right in saying its owned by the French anyway.
Yes Ben!! Sold off a few years ago now!
There was a programme on tv about this within the last fortnight. Apparently the bridge paid for itself around 2004 if i remember rightly. But they are now continuing to charge as there is going to be another crossing built within the next decade as the current isn’t coping well enough.
I remember when it was just the tunnel and no bridge and you had to be there by 06.00 ish to beat any que. Ok there was less traffic but 2 lanes in each direction was a right mare.
The Dartford crossing is not foreigb owned the Toll collection is run by a French company on behalf of the Dept of Transport.

And of course they do that for free, don’t they? And after a 33% increase this year 2014 will see a further 25% increase. With further road charges to come in the future “to tackle congestion” talk about falling for the 3 card trick! Government already raises taxes from road users that amount to something like 7 times the amount spent on roads. Pass the Vaseline!
Edit to add: In addition to this TransportForLondon have recently announced above inflation price rises for the next 10 years…

Really?? I don’t get why architects do this, how do they not for see what it will be like in 20 years time. As soon as anything is built, a tunnel or a bridge, within 10 years it’s out of date and the congestion problem is there again.
Why can’t they build a bridge or a tunnel and get ahead of the game by 50 years so they don’t have to touch it again.
The new tunnel on the A3 underneath Hindhead for e.g it’s taken them until 2011 to realise the main trunk route from London to Portsmouth is no good with just a single carriageway going through a high street!!!
And even that tunnel will be ■■■■■■ in 10 years time, so what will they do, start to build another one next to it!!!
why cant they just build something good enough to stand the test of time??
Billions should be invested into our roads,
Double deck the M25, M1, M6, M40,
And there should be a single motorway 1000 feet in the air with no junctions, connecting London, Birmingham and Manchester and once your on it from London you are not allowed to reverse back down the slip road you will have to go to brum to turn around.
I think a lot of the Qing is down to the large number of foriegn trucks using it now, but the thick gits can’t even think of putting a hole in the booths for Johny to pay with out getting out of his driving seat.
Or better still just let them through for free to cut the Qs!

Wouldn’t be any queues if the tolls were removed…

That’s the plan for late 2013 apparently. ANPR will record and charge, even for foreigners.
Similar system and penalties to London Congestion [read tax] Charge.
Toll booths will be removed.

You’ve only just realized this ■■
Thing is, I don’t mind paying if there were no q’s. they should build another bridge and charge more for the new one so us vip’s can get on with it.
Or make one crossing for trucks and charge and leave the cars on the old one.
