MAN TGX Light Test

How do you get it to work?

I push the button and it does nothing for 30 seconds then says “Test Aborted” I’ve tried putting the lights on etc in this time but it doesn’t seem to work.

What’s the trick?

Alex

I’m pretty sure that it should cycle through all the lights automatically and show any errors or let you do a walk around.Perhaps a quick ( ) visit to the dealer?. A good trick MAN have with this function(when it works) is that when extra lights are added i.e.top tail lights or extra markers - nothing excessive AFAIK. It self learns and adopts the extra current draw as ‘normal’

You push in the little light button like you said then pull back the left hand light stork as if you’re putting on full beam and that should be it , indicators will come on first then it goes through all the lights in turn several times for about 2 mins.

I think you push the button and then pull the indicator stalk back for a few seconds and that starts it self testing

Ah cheers lads, I’ll give that a go tonight! It’s a hire truck you see so nobody knew how to work it, will make things a bit easier now I know.

Thanks again.

Alex

Just hold that left stalk back for a good second till the indicators flash on, but its a good way to text those brake lights when you’re on your lonesome.

On the tga you hold the button then switch the ignition off might be the same with the tgx

It is with our TGM ('06). Ignition on, press button, ignition off.
For some reason, the only thing it doesn’t go through are the reversing lights.

  1. Switch ignition ‘ON’
  2. Press button.
  3. Turn ignition ‘OFF’
  4. Walk aroung the truck and watch the light show.

Well I only drive MAN’S and I’ve never turned the ignition off but it still works fine.

It says ERF not RAF:

  1. Switch ignition ‘ON’
  2. Press button.
  3. Turn ignition ‘OFF’
  4. Walk aroung the truck and watch the light show.

this is right read it from manual the other day and tried it takes about 2mins

Why not just put the side and hazard lights on and do a walkround?.

Because the test function cycles through all the lights, main beam, fogs, brakes etc

turn the lot on, wedge a bit of wood over the brake pedal and walk around.
Sometimes the old tried and tested way works best

Seriousley, just 'cos the electric checker SAYS its OK, do you accept that as fact?

No because you walk around unit/trailer and visibly check all lights with your own eyes so therefore not relying on any gadget telling you all is ok.

So why have a gadget ?

No, you guys are missing the point!

The “Gadget” merely scrolls the computer through ALL of the lights. You still have to get out in the morning and walk around the unit (Which you would of course do anyway!)… The beauty of the MAN system is the fact that normally you would just put sides and hazards on, with the MAN you check ALL lights!

Gaz:
with the MAN you check ALL lights!

except Reverse :grimacing:

But I agree, the MAN system is great, if only all trucks has this !

I still don’t see the advantage
My system in the stone age was to
turn on all lights including rear fog, headlights dipped
engage reverse (engine off, ignition on)
wedge brake pedal on
walk around and check visually
return to cab and flick to high beam
turn off hazards and try indicators separately (using dash tell tales or mirror if it was dark)
Incorporated in the walk round was the usual tyre, body, 5th wheel etc.
As far as I can see apart from wedging the brake pedal down you save nothing by the gadget, just another thing to go wrong!
If I am missing something please put me straight.

Scania do it too
