Hi dudes and dolls. Quick question. Any of you know what this agency is like? Thanks. Dave
Hi Davy,
I’ve moved your post to where I think it’ll get more views and responses.
I’ve had previous dealings with their office in Eastleigh and couldn’t fault them. If I ever needed agency work again they’d be my first choice.
I had a look in their window at Grangemouth, they were looking for Low Level Order Pickers what ever that is and offering them the same rate as Class 2 drivers, about £8.50 per hour.I did some work with them for R.M. when ever there were problems they blamed R.M. and R.M. blamed Manpower. They are no worse than the other agencies.
Thanks dieseldave apprecate it mate
I here there suppose to be good. But suppose they are like every other agency and dont give crap about you
I have worked for them before.Very professional without the bottom of the barrel contracts. They are contracted to the likes of Royal mail.
Why is the rate they pay drivers at RM so much better than any of their other clients?
If it’s the best drivers they are trying to recruit, then how come there are still plenty of fills for the lower pay rate assignments with this agency?
I once enquired there, and was told straight - “We only want you if you have HIAB. We have enough drivers for RM already”. Yeh sure I’m gonna bust a nut for £8.50ph doing travis & perkins all the time when I could just pick up my old stomping grounds for nearly double that.
Perhaps I’ll ask again in September, when a few blue cards fail to materialise.
I worked for manpower and they messed me about no end.
Went for class 2 and didn’t do one day of class 2 while I was there.
Ended up taking a job with ups for about 3 weeks to tied me over Xmas.
Had a big row with the manager when they stuck me on rm doing local drops and saw a guy who was being put on ups the next week. After I’d told him to reconsider it I got a phone call asking why I’m slagging off the contracts etc and it’s making them look bad.
■■■■ off, they do it well enough themselves.
Hope that helps lol
Btw went with driver hire in the end and they were very good but that was down to girl running the office more then the firm in general
I signed up with manpower in sunderland a couple of years ago as they advertised post office work over Xmas. First six weeks nothing! Then they rang to ask if I fancied a run to Liverpool that might be a night out, I had to go to eaglescliffe to start, 70 miles away from my house, I said no. Never heard from them since.
You can sure as hell bet it’s the same as any other ■■■■■■ agency at a guess.
It’s the nature of the beast.
Agency ie. An organisation that parasitically creams off their cut from what could have been a good direct rate to the driver, thus making it a mediocre rate paid out to the one that actually does all the work, an organisation that has acquired far too much power over the years that will promise you the earth and keep you on a string, and if you dare to show any signs of standing up to them they will drop you like a piece of dog ■■■■… aka the scourge of the haulage industry over the last 20+ years
…hope that helps
Apart from that they might be ok!
…so where do all the Manpower hi-viz’s you see wandering around the shop floor all come from exactly then?
How come they consist of a number of old hands, new sign-ups, immigrants, the lot - but not YOU as a sign-up?
Am I missing what ■■■■ has to be licked here or something?
Winseer:
Why is the rate they pay drivers at RM so much better than any of their other clients?Could it be that after pay parity, Royal Mail pay a significantly higher rate than most hauliers. Who else do you know pay their driver £28,000 basic for box work?
I cant say ive ever had any major problems like being at ay other agency, so much so that they actually ot me a full time position out of it…

Did you get a fulltime job with the Royal Mail?
yep
I’m told we’ve all got to pass a new assessment each and every year to take part at RM as of last year… Plenty of folk are failing said assessments too…

Probably for the same reason agencies at Hygena used to pay more - Hygena in this case told the agency what they were going to pay their drivers but still made sure it was worth their while.

Different customers/clients have different ways of looking at their businesses.
Most are Bean Counter (Accountant) driven, and an Accountant knows the cost of everything and the value of nothing. So as such, will pay as little as they can and get the dross and dregs, without realising the cost to the business of this. While some companies may realise that paying peanuts, will attract moneys, and choose to place better rewards on the table, thus attracting (and keeping) a better level of worker.
It’s not unique to any industry, and next time you see an accountant, try not to strangle them! (They are not worth the prison sentence!
)
I reckon that’s the policy that RM seem to have adopted here.
Even when you walk across the shop floor at a large RM depot, you get the impression that you’re surrounded by above average IQ’s, and people that are not actually a bunch of idiots at all. I’m serious!
