Making the transition from Cat C to CE

Good evening folks,

The time is nearly here for me to be doing my CE license, whom I’m being put through by a well known firm.

I’m just a little worried about making the transition as I’m unsure I’ll get my head around that bendy bit and getting the reversing on key. Anyone else had similar worries, I’m excited about getting started but does worry me slightly!

Cheers

The very fact that you are conscious enough of what you don’t know, says to me, that you will be just fine. Would be very interested to ready your training diary when you get started.

Jumping from B to C is more challenging than from C to C+E imho

I’ll definitely be doing a diary as the firm putting me through my CE will no doubt want a summary of being their first trainee driver :sunglasses:

Always used to play the truck simulators but obviously its very different to real life, just hope it goes well. :sunglasses: i understand I’ve picked up a few bad habits in the past year driving hopefully I’ll be able to kerb em for my training.

Cheers

Jonny :sunglasses:

I’m sure you will be fine Jonny, if I remember you adapted well to tuition and you have gained experience driving a rigid which will put you in good shape.

Paul

I’m hoping so, I’ve put off buying bits for my DAF as the CE training came as a shock offer with the old 2 year contract d and would be silly to turn it down. Best offer you can get as a newbie, will be starting over the next couple months whilst setting start dates etc. just the reality sinking in as it did when i started my Cat C training. Felt unreal but enjoyed every second :sunglasses:

Cheers

Jonny :sunglasses:

Keep away from the KERBS Johnny,

You need to CURB any bad habits

Good advice above.

You don’t want to go down that path.

About time I think if I can do it you can as you just a young pup

But don’t go falling out of them trailers not good for you

Everyones been saying that. but ive not really had the money to do it, and dad offered to pay for the training but i wanted to do it off my own back, then this offer came out from where my dad works asking me if id like to do my class 1. Generally easier work and less stressful so id be a fool not to :sunglasses:

And i wont be falling from no trailer, fell off the back of my lorry slicing my fingers trying to save myself. not something i wish to repeat!

Cheers

Easy was sorting straps out after I had tipped & was re loading went to climb off trailer slipped fell bang simple something I do all the time just this time missed judged the step

Very easy to misjudge your step when on the deck! Nearly did it myself except i had the metal part the curtain goes into slicing my fingers like butter :frowning:

On the plus side my official start date with prestons is the 28th September. Where i go in for training straight away at melmerby training in ripon. From what I’ve found on here don’t seem to be a bad crowd and nice enough people. Still sinking in this is all happening but how excited i am you couldn’t believe!

Now question i have is what are the rules regarding the paper part of the license for the test as i can’t seem to find mine anywhere and just wondered if I’m going to need it for the training/test seen as the dvla have stopped issuing replacements!

Cheers

prestons are putting you through your class1■■?
im genuinely shocked by this :open_mouth:

good luck i found i adapted to artics quicker than rigids you just got to remember to take bends wider in a artic i drove a rigid a week after passing my my class1 and ended up taking a turning into a retail way to wide oops still had artic driving fresh in my mind so far ive done 1 week on rigids and 3 weeks on artics and ive been offered the job full time on the artics for a small company doing tramping loved every minute of it so far find it gives you a bit more of a challenge when you gotta do a blind side reverse but my advice is if youve been offered it go for it you wont look back im looking forward to starting full time on 1st october once ive worked my notice on my old minibus job

goodluck

Artics cut in far less than rigids, no need to bury the nose quite as deep. Just remember that if you’re doing a tight turn, there will be quite a bit of trailer poking out when you assume you’re in the clear, because the unit is where you want it

To be honest if not for my dad i wouldn’t be doing this right now. My dad wanted to pay for my class 1 but declined as i wanted to pay for it myself. Which lead to prestons offering me this chance. And i know prestons wouldn’t do this for just anyone so says volumes of my dads hard work. hopefully if this goes well prestons will give others like myself the same chance.

Cheers for the advice and kind words everyone, it is very appreciated! Training starts in 4 weeks! Excited isn’tthe word

Lurked on your posts for a while, hope it all comes off for you Jonny.

I’ve decided CE is where I want to be. While I’m still young enough (27) I’ve decided to take the plunge and do C and then CE. Got my theories in a few weeks after my holiday. At least you won’t have to do those again!
