the as-tronic is a regular manual box that is computer controlled. and it doesn’t need a speed signal to work - if it’s in gear and the revs go too high, it changes up, simple.
Am afraid you are wrong there

you might be afraid but wikipedia sure isn’t
AS Tronic - automated manual (AMT) with Hydraulic Retarder – 1997 -
I agree that drivers shudnt use magnets for constant driving but they are very handy if you are just running out of time as you pull into a yard to tip, it does no harm what so ever when your using them off the road / shunting etc, but i dont agree with thoes that drive hour hours on end with a magnet on, or a second digi card, or with fuse’s pulled etc, tho is it any wonder some do it with the pressure bosses and planners put on them, to reach tipping or shipping times,

i think you have got the wrong end of the stick
Norb means that you are wrong about the gearbox not needing a speed signal to automatically change gear
it does need a speed signal to work properly, and if it loses it, you will have to change gear manually with the stick
it is the same whether you chose to use the magnet OR have a blown fuse, the auto box drops to manual mode
don’t know with the magnet, but, if the fuse blows, it doesn’t even tell you what gear it is in, as all the dash board goes out

Some Scanias of past used to knock out the indicators when the tacho fuse was pulled! the way that was got round was to remove the near side trailer indicator bulb and use fourway flasher to indicate to pull out to overtake on the motorway, not that I did any of that fuse pulling!

i would grass him to the law
No you wouldn’t
Somebody told me a magnet on the gearbox knocks out the speed limiter. I don’t know how true that is.
hey fb thought you were going to far flung reaches
Coming down the A1 just after Worksop 50 limit section. I had witnessed a Johnny English putting what looks like cooking oil in to his fuel tank!

I hope this is a wind up, if not you are asking to be nicked. Falsification of tacho records is highly illegal, simple as. You must show an accurate record of your daily activities, especially if you have used the public highway at any point on shift. Get found out and your completely screwed.

I show an extremely accurate record of my activities, night trunking starting at midnight finishing around 08.00, what I don’t show is the work from around 09.00 until approximately 16.00 on refurbishing property, which I work on seven days per week with longer periods in the weekends, the night trunking is mon-fri nights, the combined weekly hours exceeding 90 regularly, and its all legal, owning the property means I’m not ‘employed’, ‘self employed’, I’m not acting under duty obligation, it ticks all the boxes of ‘freely disposing of my time’, reading about people near pooping their pants at the thought of going over by fifteen minutes etc makes me near cry laughing, as did your post.
Many people on here daren’t go a few mins over because of the thought of been sent to jail immediately. Laughable really.
I wouldn’t use a magnet or drive without card, I’d go over and write a reason… Best to go over with an excuse then use magnets or show missing KMs.
A local lad to me got pulled by VOSA and his tacho charts was 100% , the officer said “there too good to be true, every driver has minuets over here and there” even they expect mistakes

Yes, this is true, VOSA are not the fine-grabbing Devils that people make out, every time I’ve had a “control” I’ve had infringements, last time I was stopped I had done 6¼ hours driving a few days previously because a chemical tanker had overturned on the M25 and as soon as I told them that they just weren’t remotely interested in it any more.

I don’t ‘poop my pants at the prospect of going over by fifteen minutes’, trivial infringements like that where you are honest are not of great concern nor likely to see you have the full force of the law thrown at you. I was responding to the guys use of magnets to manipulate the records recorded by the tachograph whilst on duty as a driver. If you are caught doing this then you are staring down the barrel of thousands of pounds in fines, driving bans and possibly jail. This is reality, magnets are a no no.
Completely different ball game to doing what your doing between driving shifts.

He probably has. Its an old topic.

I agree with others here, i think people talk about how vosa are going to give you the chair if your 15mins over and therefore people thinks its better to try and pull the wool over there eyes, where as, like others said here, your better going over 15mins than using a magnet etc, vosa would obviously say the same.
they have a bad name, but if ur books are in order and everything seems correct they will be fair with you, they know your only human,
though there are officers that there is no working with, i guess half the time you just cant win so better be legal and not win than bent and not win
where i work as a shunter,we get alot of foreign lorries in,
Tonight a lorry pulled in,but when he went to load he put a magnet underneath,i blatently saw him do it,
What would you do if you saw that happen?
what means "Underneeth?
