if someone wants to run bent, then so [zb]in what. it dosn’t harm anyone.
they are introducing a new tachograph to combat this.
it has probably cost the EU a small fortune in development.
but it can be sorted with 1 magnet and 2 switches, instead of just a magnet.
the only way to combat tachograph fraud, is to do away with tachographs.
Dont be a [zb], running bent ruins the industry for legit companies, and when that idiot has done 36 straight and you have no work cause of this bent driver no harm done you seriously have issues, or just like to bull [zb] with your jackonories

Total myth, or we would all have to do it just to keep our jobs!
Well on the plus side for legit operators ,from the later part of mid year the tacho sender has been improved to resist magnets ,wont say how it’s done ,and on new trucks the tacho gets a 2nd speed signal, won’t say where from, though it isn’t a secret.so the tacho compares the 2 speed signals and should flag up any issues between them …Though no doubt someone will find a way around It
On 2 May 2012 Patrick Boyle and Mark Boyle were handed two year and 18 month sentences respectively at Carlisle Crown Court, after they pleaded guilty to conspiring with drivers to make the false tachograph records on 18 February 2011.
After a year long investigation, It was revealed that each digital tachograph owned by the company had been interfered with and the drivers had, in fact, been driving up to 22 hours per day (the law states the maximum should be 10 per day) and failing to take their lawful breaks.

Crikey 22 hours driving, that is dangerous, there has always been fraud in transport and there always will be the small profit margins almost guarantee it.
Winding the clock forward removing fuses and bits of wire were the norm for lots of drivers, normally done by myself to either get home or have a break in a queue. Nothing like the above, a little bit of chicanery now and then although I don’t condone it is not the be all and end all, doing it all the time is just wrong.

You have this all wrong. Don’t assume that everyone that runs or has run bent work 24/7. They don’t.
They may run a bit extra to get to a decent parking area for a decent nights kip. That’s much safer than parking in a noisy thief ridden [zb] hole.
They may run bent because of the ridiculous 90 hour limit, Running out of time on thursday just two hours from home. Do you park up and run in after midnight sunday? or go home to the wife and kids?
Some may drop the trailer whilst taking the weekend off, stick the magnet on and go shopping. If they were at home they’d go in the car.
Running bent isn’t always the way it’s put across in the press and courtrooms.

Let’s hope they’re better at fiddling their tacho than they are at distilling vodka.
Well, honestly, if anybody could point to one single advantage of the eastern Europeans arriving here then I would be prepared to listen to their thesis. There just isn’t one.
We have vegetables in the supermarkets
We were grateful of the Poles help in WW2, excellent workers on the farms too. Were you only alluding to lorry drivers?

but Phil, some of the drivers in here are bubbling because they might have to do a15 hour day. They probably don’t even know there is a 90 hour rule!

i’ve been told vosa can tell when you’ve been running with a magnet - dont ask me how, i’ve only been told. the days of magnets will soon be over anyway, as most trucks these days are gay automatics i cant see them working very well if the truck doesnt know how fast your travelling and therefore wont know when to change gears for you!
They work better on an auto box cause less damage as there is no splitter involved and therefore cannot be broke or so I’ve been told!!!

i have just read this thread and did not know about magnets,in the past it has been fuses and wires so its just a progression, what i will say is that
anything manmade can be tampered with so whatever the boffins do to try and stop magnets another way will be found to run illegally.

well for the record, i’ve never tried the old magnet trick so i’m only really speaking on theory - which includes hopefully some common sense. as far as i’m aware an automatic gearbox is the same basic gearbox as a manual but with various computer controlled mechanisms attached - i cant speak for scania or volvo but i’m totally sure this is the case with MAN and DAF as they both use zf units so there will be the same splitter inside but it will just show on the screen as being a gear number instead of 4h/4l for example. i would have said the truck needs to know how fast its going to know when to change gear etc but if you say they work ok then fair enough - this probably backs up the secondary speed signal? which i would have said could be linked to the ebs? i know when i’m stretching out my trailer or closing it up, the moment i move and the trailer doesnt it lights up the trailer abs on the dash.
and i have it on very good authority(from vosa) you can use your truck for personal use ie getting food etc whilst on a break as long as you account for this by putting a card in - and then writing on it, probably a mode you can use on a digi, i dont know, thats one thing i did learn on my driver cpc, there are all sorts of modes, for ferry crossings and stuff - so maybe use that

Im led to believe they work on volvo autos fine, i dont know this through experience just from the idiot who chooses to run with one despite apprently being hourly paid!!

You can use a wagon on break for personal use? That’s a new one on me.
yes - not your 45, either daily or weekly, but must be accounted for, ie, with another tacho, distance doesnt want to be to far either and should show you’ve done a short round trip for example you’ve gone ten minutes, stopped, then gone another ten minutes back to where you came, not show the kind of hours distance that would suggest you’ve been delivering stuff and you need a good reason to have done it - but the most important thing is you must have a record of it! ask vosa if your not sure, i’ve just had an inspection at my house and after 2.5 hours i’d made a few excuses and raised a good few points, ended on a handshake although i am now waiting for the final outcome from the big TC at leeds.

magnets on daf autos ,put on a transmission warning as the magnet messes with the speed signal…the box get confused it doesn’t know what to do

the astronic as fitted to the daf is a totally auto box ,main gears are crash, splitter and range are normal with syncros…The aslite as fitted to the lf and cf 65 is just a manual box with a powerpack fitted to it to change gear
the as-tronic is a regular manual box that is computer controlled. and it doesn’t need a speed signal to work - if it’s in gear and the revs go too high, it changes up, simple.

Is that not just the norm for a DAF gearbox being confused!
