M62 westbound j32 accident [Merged]

Lorry driver and former Soldier Kevin Ollerhead is a father of two from St Helens, Merseyside, and has been driving professionally for 16 years.

His sister-in-law Lynnette Cullen-Doyle said: “He’s devastated. We’re all in total shock. We all feel for the families of the people who are injured and the woman who has lost her life. Our thoughts are with them all. Kevin’s the nicest bloke you could ever meet. He rang my sister from the scene but they could only speak for a minute. He was really badly shaken. He said he had to go because the police had arrived and put the phone down. That was the last we heard. We found out he’d been arrested on the TV. We just can’t believe it.”

Kevin Ollerhead had picked up a delivery from the Link Logistics depot in Warrington yesterday before the accident 70 miles away.

What a disaster. Hope everyone injured makes a full recovery.

we dont know exacly know what’s happened yet but i think it’s significant that it’s happened just after the lanes split.
could the mini bus have cut back across the chevrons after realising that he/she was in the wrong lane■■? ive seen that happen lots of times.

YES . . . That’s the favoured speculation amongst Professionals on this site.

IF SO, it’s a bit of rough justice to “arrest” the truck driver - he must be
going through hell and wondering why he decided to work on a Friday.

AFAIK, the police have to arrest the driver in order to be able to interview him under caution. It does not mean a presumption of guilt, but it is to make sure any statement given is able to be used in any (possible) criminal proceedings that may follow.

“NO COMMENT - I WANT TO SEE A SOLICITOR.” . . . would be my response.

Incidentally, strange that the minicoach driver didn’t appear to be arrested.

“I want a solicitor” is the correct response

This is why I reckon all truck drivers should get a dash cam

Especially for the police on here.

I’m not so sure - I’ve just been driving with a two-way cam fitted (it
films anyone in the cab as well as the road ahead.)

It put me on edge - I do too many things when driving that I wouldn’t
want anyone to know about !

Filming the road ahead is perfectly fine, but filming inside the cab, I’d consider that an invasion of privacy.

Minibus driver should of been arrested as his/her evidence would be crucial in investigation stages typical that hgv driver arrested all drivers should be arrested and police dont have to arrest to gather evidence by way of questioning heard of the police caution still allows evidential questioning on tape/video

Why should the minibus driver have been arrested? They only arrest you for one reason. The minibus driver will still have to give statements of what happened from his or her point of view.

Here he is, right on cue.

Hiya a sad day for everyone…even some of us reading the posting on TN.
i’am not even thinking whats happenend because no one knows.
I would like to say…has anyone ever had a cambelt snap■■? I have… a pal of mine who’s a self employed
lorry fitter had a belt go on his transit.less 2 seconds later he had a stationary van with a locked up engine,
even he could’nt do anything to save his engine,no sign of any brakelights for the vehicles following…
could something like this have happened.you don’t get any warning , the engine just locks up and also do
the drive wheels(leaving skid marks)…not bad maintainance just a part that fails, even new belts can snap.

rest in peace young lady. and a swift recovery to all…even though some will need medication for the rest of
their lives.
John

the thing to remember with this horrific accident it could so easily have been conected to any of us one of us could of been driving that farmfoods moter or it could of been one of our relatives that was in the minibus off for a weekend away
i think it kind of shows lack of sympothy when people come on here making assumptions on what happened its not our place to we are not accident investigaters,i think it would be far more dignified if people just kept there thoughts to themselves imagine it was your son or father driving that farmfoods lorry and you reead on here it was his bad driving etc etc its his fault bla bla bla
stay safe every one and lets all act like decent human beings

Well said!

I don’t think there’s anything indecent with speculating. It’s just what many people do naturally and I’m guilty of it myself on occasion. I’m not sure why people get so worked up about it tbh. If you don’t want to read people’s speculations then don’t visit the thread - it’s that simple. :bulb:

The Village were I Live is where all of the people on board the minibus got injured or died, so my thoughts go out to there family’s. :frowning:

would`nt bother me in the slightest, because i know this is just an internet forum, where people can air there opinions on issues/events that are relevant to their occupation/lifestyles.
