M62 @ west York jct 26

Grabbing a hand full of steering wheel is the last thing you should be doing in a 44 tonne truck, that results in death and destruction.

Trying to work out from the image what has happened to have the Audi facing that way

The Audis steering is also on full left lock.

The truck is towards the centre of the carriageway yet on its right hand side indicating a left final swerve.

At least the Truck driver should be able to shed some light on what happened, and maybe had a camera or device to record events.

It seems too many accidents are happening at the top of entry slip roads - coincidence? I doubt it.

RIP to the couple who died, but my thoughts are also with the HGV driver who, with a container which may or may not have been loaded correctly, probably did all he could to prevent the accident, and who will have to live with the consequences of it for the rest of his life, even if/when it is eventually shown that he was not doing anything wrong. It is going to be very hard for him.

All the best, driver, hope you are soon up and back with your family and friends.

Rip to those people that died, not a nice way to go. Please god it was all over quick for them. As for what happened, that’s for the police to figure out not for a few armchair CSI buffs to investigate by looking at a couple of photos.

I must admit some containers are appallingly badly loaded - very unstable. I think that around slip roads people entering the carriageway assume indeed, try to force, traffic already on the m/way to allow them in. They seem to have no sense of adjusting their own speed to suit conditions.

Indeed a sad loss of life…I think that people feel almost ‘too safe’ in the car bubble these days…they think they’re indestructible.

why have they blanked out the registration number of the car but not the truck?

To stop a dead persons house getting robbed ■■?

It’s not known if the relatives of the deceased have been informed, yet. Finding out that loved ones have been killed from a registration number in such a photograph would be a pretty horrible way to find out, wouldn’t it? Hence it’s blanked out.

The truck driver (thankfully) survived, so not the same need to blank out their registration.

yes, but, with the registration on view, the details of the owner and the driver can be found out and if someone so wished, they could take ‘retribution’ on the lorry driver before any facts have been established

The relatives of the Audi may yet have not been informed is why the cars reg plate will be blacked out

Just been out to do a bit of shopping and saw this coming through town on it’s way to Stoneywood’s storage compound.

Another fatal accident involving a truck. Another sorry day for our industry. Im thinking… why we - as professional drivers not campaigning for forward facing cameras to be fitted into trucks? It gets to me that as far as joe public goes the driver of the HGV is guilty until proven innocent. Even the law tends to work in this respect too. When an airline or military plane crashes, the so called Black Box nearly always gives investigators major clues, if not a total rason for the incident. It strikes me that we as an industry are taking it from all angles. It would also eliminate those ar***oles that deliberate slam on the brakes whilst in front of a truck - causing an accident.

it looks from the picture that the A5 was a convertible, would account for why it looks so flat

The couple in the Audi were from Bishop Auckland so would have almost certainly have been on the M62 from the A1 so not be the interlopers from the M606, I went past at about 6:40 and an ambulance was just taking the truck driver (it turns out) to hospital as I was creeping past Heartshead moor services. There must have been 15-18 Fire fighters working with air bags to lift the rear of the trailer to free the people trapped in the white Audi, the scene was just horendous.

It took me 3hrs 5mins to get from Liverpool to Driffield & 4hrs 25mins to get back!! I came back via York, Harrogate, Colne &M65/M6 etc.

Ross.

PS, a question for the people who use the word “rubberneckers”, don’t you look over at the scene of a crash?? (go on, be honest)

PPS, it wasn’t a ‘drop head’, it was a coupe.

Am I the only one that thinks the lanes though some of the roadworks are more than a tad on the narrow side?.

They are far too narrow, I very rarely use that stretch of the M62, but I remember when the roadworks 1st went in, I was in the middle lane as i entered the roadworks and I was shocked at how close vehicles were as the lanes narrowed, I moved over to the left at the 1st opportunity and stayed there, if and when I do use that stretch while there’s still roadworks, I will always stay in the left lane.

It’s almost like lanes 2 & 3 are 6ft 6in restricted

Maybe, but that’s why there’s a 50mph speed limit.

yep bit like the m60 when it goes into 4 lanes extremley dangerous if you are in lane 3

The middle lane through those roadworks is too narrow for HGVs to pass in safety. I do it, but if there is nothing in the outside lane, I use that lane also, as it is safer to do so. Coach at the side of me two weeks back, decided to pull in behind me, but he did have a full quota of passengers on board! I really dont know how, in this age of health & Safety, the highways agency get away with it, or why no one has taken them to court to sue them after an accident.

You can put up all the signs you like, advising of narrow lanes, but one large sneeze and it could all be over for several innocent people!

by the time i got to it they had covered the car with a yellow tarp , horrible to see .
