M6 Toll

Hi All,
Today I came off at T5 A38 Juct South and was charged £4.00 in my car  . Got back on to head home at the same Junt to head North, then got the to main toll booth and was charged £5.50 :imp: for the same distance just the other way.
They tell me you get a discount one way
Cheers Welly

Well how do they know if you are going one way or not unless they have an anpr that logs your reg but if that’s the case then it will be logging a whole lotta reges! Unless it’s just cheaper to go south or something.

I agree how would they know. But then with the time frame and the times on the receipt there is no way what I could off done the full length between the times.
They say its a good will to the locals when I asked them.
Cheers Welly

It’s less before 6am iirc,was you on before 6?

Went on this on Sat and Sun.

Sat, North from the start to T4, £4.80

Sun, South from start to finish, £4.80.

■■■■■■■ rip off! I accidently got on it in the wagon, was on about 2 miles, £10 please… Good job they take Keyfuels

Not been on it for a while, bit I remember that you get charged more if you go past the toll plaza rather than using the machines at the exits.

Also day and night are different prices, as well as the weekends.

Charges are as per their website (have been the same for the past three years) m6toll.co.uk/pricing/pricing-guide/

In essence, if you leave at one of the “local” toll exits you pay less than you do if you leave at either end and continue straight onto the M6.

Below is what they said to me.
Dear Mr Welly,

Thank you for your e-mail enquiry dated 17 August 2015.

The tolls at local junctions have been discounted when compared to the mainline plazas by the company in recognition of the local support for the Toll road. Therefore your southbound journey although the same length as your northbound journey was cheaper as you benefited from the discounted toll rate.
Cheers

I do to Junction T4 a lot. If I leave and pay at an exit it’s £10. But if I go the other way using the main tolls it’s £11. They gave no way of telling how far you’ve come.

ANPR?

ANPR?

Cost more to install. And they’d do themselves out of money.

How do the automated barriers know what class of vehicle you’re in then?

I’ve always presumed it’s weight. But to be honest I don’t know. It would still need another system to ascertain where you joined the road.

Some numpty will be watching you on a camera somewhere.

Don’t use it ! Simples. [emoji6]

£10 overtime & wasted time for a driver and his truck to sit in the J10A-J8 mess when it’s at it’s worst as well as a late/failed delivery, or £11 to jump on the toll & avoid any delays.

I think the latters a better option & I think hauliers could be more open minded about using it sometimes. Personally though, i’m quite happy for everybody just to continue stubbornly sitting in the Birmingham tail backs whilst I whizz on through

Back in 2000 (that’s not 8pm btw  ) I went on a Mercedes fuel efficient driving thingy and the trainer told me (at the fuel prices then) that it cost around £1.40 to accelerate a 44 tonner from zero to 56mph. How many times would you do that in the M6 congestion?

As unpalatable as it may seem to pay tolls, certainly at busy times when you factor in wear and tear, wages, fuel etc, it makes financial sense to use it. Having said that, financial sense and company bean counters is probably an oxymoron.

I’m generally anti tolls, esp since I’ve got the rip off Severn bridge between where I live and my parents house but the M6 Toll is worth its weight in gold sometimes. When you consider the time and fuel it can save its not expensive. Plus you don’t have to use it.

Yea, I can see where you are coming from, but our MD won’t pay the Toll. We just try to time it right & avoid peak times.
‘Smug Alert’
I can Smuggly say that I’ve personally used it 6 times, without parting with my own cash-
twice (up & down) on a coach as a passenger, technically part of my fair went towards the Toll approx 20p each way, but I never actually placed the coins into some Shylocks withered bony hand.
Twice (up & down) to my in laws, my stepson insisted that we use the toll, so I made him pay.
& twice last year in the wagon during that free trial last July.
