It’s a moot point to me too Martin tbh, our lot won’t pay, I’m hourly paid, so nett result is I get paid more to stop/start and leg watch. Happy days.
Can not understand why they charge only one tariff regardless of how much of the toll road you are using, sometimes it could be handy to use for going to the next junction, its not like french do it on the toll roads the mainland is it, also it is good to know they aren’t actually making money from the road users, as it costs more to run than what they take in tolls, a £41 million loss in 2012, and i think they will take even less once the M6 proper is finished.

It’s not worth using most of the time Northbound anymore, the managed motorway scheme has had quite a positive impact through the J7-10 section.
Our company won’t pay for the toll. So we got sit in traffic for an hour
I got special dispensation from my old boss to use it, provided that if asked to, I could show a tacho print to prove I had good reason. Company policy was to ring in for permission, and while they debated it, you had usually passed the entrance before they said no. And in the rare event you were allowed to, you had to pay for it on your own debit card and wait God knows how long for it to come back in your wages.
I banged it on the fuel card.
When the boss finally picked up on it, I told him that I was the one in the situation, and I would not be running out of hours because some ■■■■ on the end of a phone knew better than me.
After that, I was allowed to use it, when I needed to, provided I told nobody else that it accepted shell cards. Fine by me, I didn’t give a monkeys if other lads ran out of hours

So by not paying the toll they pay you an extra hour to sit in the traffic. What a saving.

Well, it’s £11 for wagons, so that’s 17p less than my p/h.
Also, we are never in a rush or rushed by the office so it’s not a problem.
I was surprised to find out that Stobarts wont allow us to use it.

They build their own and it will be magnificent
And will still charge their own drivers
Given it hardly makes a ton of money, I don’t see why the government won’t just buy it & make it a public highway. Call it the M6B or something. That’s years of road infrastructure through the Midlands sorted in a stroke and would also ease the A5.
Or, is that just too simple to be feasible?
I think I’m right in saying that it has yet to turn in a profit - with any operating surplus being more than wiped out by interest charges etc.
Someone say they take keyfuel cards in place of the toll?

Ooo! Did not know that! That would make life easier around Birmingham!
You can pay with Keyfuels, Allstar and Euroshell cards.
Well, our mob do encourage you to use toll roads if they cut down the travel time. Tyne tunnel and Mersey tunnels are a prime example.
The M25 needs a relief road - not the M6.

Especially on a Friday! Joined it from the A29 at Leatherhead, Nag-nav was demanding that I join it and head west bound past Heathrow, not happening as they closed it at J11, queues going all the way back to J8! Decided to try my luck at Dartford.

Did your Satnav not identify the road closure (and associated congestion on approach/in surrounding area) and route you around it?

Nope. The traffic system on my 5150 has never worked. Only found out about it because I have the traffic option on when using the radio. I just ignored it and carried on my way. The A3 was buggered thanks to a crash earlier in the day and I was too far over to use the A38 and head up to Birmingham and make it back in time.
