I hate going on this road, if you stick to 40 mph you get a jam behind you of about 2 miles, then the vehicles waiting to get past will result to dangerous driving, with the ferry port, there are the trucks on a deadline and take more risk.
With many unmarked police cars in the area, that does not make any difference.
At the side of the road you will see the field or hedge/verge that has deep cuts in it where a vehicle has come off the road, some look like a tractor has done some ploughing, but it is the wheels that have done it.
If you do 56 on a 40 limit, you have no idea if the car behind is a Police car.
Why dont they dual the whole road, the council could apply for some Euro money funding due to the port and the trade it generates.
It must be the only road where the users are the most angriest, and will risk life and limb to get past, there are trucks with no speed limiters that go past.
Welcome to the madhouse!

not this again, been done to death, think o something else!!!
Ok , we will leave it alone for now.
As far as i know they were offered an EU grant, This was apparantly turned down.
I don’t know the reason, and i don’t know if there’s any truth in it.
If they did away with the silly 40mph limit, Then they could just leave the road as it is.
I kind of like the A75. It’s like running the gauntlet, a bit risky, and very satisfying when you get to the other end in one piece.
If they made it into a dual carriageway, Then it would take the fun out of it.
Get between two motors - and keep up!
the speed limit is 40 mph most of the way
and it has been since Noah was a lad
people shouldnt expect others to break the law just cos of them
who want to charge about
the queue is caused by the ones failing to overtake the one at the front
need to catch a boat
mmm
theres another one tomorrow
Here we go again - Toby doesn’t like the A75
used to do that run15 years ago got off the ferry late at night due to it being delayed several hours i got hounded by paddys racing down there even overtaking at the narrow bits was hair raising
Its a boring life if you follow the rules.
They tried for donkey s yrs to get EU money to upgrade the road and everytime ,the EU decieded to either spend the money available on the southern EU and then the Eastern EU joined and they got their share!
I believe they are now finally upgrading from the KINmount straight -----west o Carrutherstown.
In 94-5 the EU had surveyors looking at straigtening the section from west o Carrutherstown to the Collin bypass and at the time my sewage tank (across the road from my house was to be filled in ).and the road was to be re alighned from Collin —behind Boghead farm(where the REiDS driver burned to death) cutting the corner (blind crossroads)off at Mouswaldbanks cottages
and pass the caravan park ,then to Carrutherstown.
My house was the one wae the xmas lights on the corner.( some o you remember??)

Get a CB for that road (am) and you’ll hear us talking to each other as we overtake which why with the help of a lorry ahead several of us will overtake in one go knowing that the road ahead is clear, plus on the CB you will soon discover where the unmarked cars are. As has been said before if comming off the boat and you don’t want to keep her lit just pull over give it 5 minutes then make your way down the road
sure used to be interesting heading into Creetown past the concrete works and down over the bridge into town …lol.
same at Glenluce at the old A75 viaduct wi trucks on the centre line…and never mind coming down the glen intae dumfries. the roads no perfect by no means and as a euroroute its a disgrace but its 75% better than the late 70sand 80s.
jimmy.
i agree with mazzer …listen why dont u just get in between a few irish lorrys with irish drivers driving them and you’ll be grand. the min the cops leave the cop shop in staranrar word gets out on the CB. we also know the reg of the unmarked cars. i do have to say there is the odd prick that will over take without been sure if the road is clear. so get yourself a AM set and just ask when meeting others. if u cant do the speed and lorrys come up behide u just pull in and let them by. easy
the local traffic politzie just love catching trucks speeding on that road, so they go about in unmarked cars and have lots of wee sneaky hidey holes all along that road. theres also vosa out on the dumfries bypass laybys at least one day every week and also at castle kennedy at the stranraer end. however the number of fatal road accidents involving hgvs on this road must be well above average for its length and speed limit. also the bridge at dunragit gets hit almost every other day, so on the whole its a challenge if you have to use it. nice in the summer tho

You do realise that they work out of at least 3 other police stations, don’t you?

Good for you! But you have to be close enough to read the reg plates.
Nothing stopping them radioing ahead to the next police car lying in wait.
The unmarked fleet is always changing.

Anyone can monitor your AM channel, the police included. They’ll also be monitoring this site I’ll bet.
Probably explains why so many Irish trucks are stopped each week?
Cheers.

And not forgetting the monthly occurance of a usually Irish registered truck ending up in a field/through a hedge during the early hours.
Cheers.

thats why we ask the lorry we are meeting if our back doors is cleanNothing stopping them radioing ahead to the next police car lying in wait.
no there’s not…same way as there nothing stopping us from informing others where the 2nd car is hidingThe unmarked fleet is always changing.
not as 2 years, yes the odd car appears for a while but doesnt stay

i bet they do, but why would that bother us.there monitoring us and we’re TRYING to stay a step of them.(not easy)

sure its mostly irish trucks on that road, i’ve been stopped a few times on it and may i say that out of all the cops i’ve been stopped by only 1 was hatefull.they have there job to do has well and i find them nice people…u can hate the war but u dont have to hate the soilder

When you consider 100 miles of A road and the hundreds of trucks using it daily accidents vs traffic levels is actually pretty low. Its just when ever there is a incident it buggers up the whole road due to it being single carriageway for most of it.
As for the police, you’ll always get one kicking about at night, through the day pretty infrequent plus a camera van now and again. It really is no where near as mafia’d as what folk make out.
