M6 to Dumfries/Stranear on the A75

the local traffic politzie just love catching trucks speeding on that road, so they go about in unmarked cars and have lots of wee sneaky hidey holes all along that road. theres also vosa out on the dumfries bypass laybys at least one day every week and also at castle kennedy at the stranraer end. however the number of fatal road accidents involving hgvs on this road must be well above average for its length and speed limit. also the bridge at dunragit gets hit almost every other day, so on the whole its a challenge if you have to use it. nice in the summer tho

And not forgetting the monthly occurance of a usually Irish registered truck ending up in a field/through a hedge during the early hours. :unamused:

Cheers.

Utter rubbish ,there’s some great drivers on that road ,it’s not their fault the port is where it is is it? And it’s only one road in the uk ,there are plenty of others with high rates of accidents, the trick to that road is like all others ,keep your distance from the vehicle in front and steady speed ,it is a dangerous road but only if you make it dangerous .There are passing opportunities just wait it doesn’t make much difference in the overall time from m6 to port.

eh…what ya mean…“utter rubbish”, my front door is only 100 yards from the a75 in dumfries, nobody said they were all bad drivers all im pointing out is the section from gretna, round dumfries and onto castle douglas, if you take the attitude that its okay to go over 40 mph then theres a good chance you will get caught speeding, whether your scottish, irish, english or any other nationality because the dumfries traffic police DONT like speeders on that road. as you say it dosent matter where the port is but thats irrelevant to the speed some people drive on the A75.

the min the cops leave the cop shop in staranrar word gets out on the CB.

You do realise that they work out of at least 3 other police stations, don’t you?

milkchurns:
we also know the reg of the unmarked cars.

Good for you! But you have to be close enough to read the reg plates.

Nothing stopping them radioing ahead to the next police car lying in wait.

The unmarked fleet is always changing.

milkchurns:
so get yourself a AM set and just ask when meeting others.

Anyone can monitor your AM channel, the police included. They’ll also be monitoring this site I’ll bet.

Probably explains why so many Irish trucks are stopped each week?

Cheers.

Because all the local firms in the surrounding have a really good name with the VOSA there are plenty of problems closer to home in that area too Irish firms aren’t the only ones who chance their arm

I was meaning what mazzer said its not just irish trucks and firms that push on on it .but I do agree with you some trucks and cars do push it a bit.

i’m up and down that road as years.i near know every gap in the hedge.every now and again there will come a prick that that will drive like a mad man. if and when i see these boys doing this i will let them on on the cb that i’m not impressed with their driving and its the likes of them that make a ■■■■ of it for they rest of us and most of the time other drivers will agree with me. as for lorrys going into the hedge’s, well a cop told me 1 night that the driver that ends up in the hedge is most of the time forged into the hedge by the mad man thats is overtaking, so remember the next time u see a rig in the hedge that the driver may well just be a good driver and choose to take to the hedge sooner than have a head on with the little prick that gaves the rest of us a bad name.i would without any hassel lift the phone and phone the coppers if the same fella acts the hero on that road every week. i’m no saint on that road but i drive to the standard that i feel safe.most nights there could be 40-60 lorrys down that road at any gaven time coming of boats and there dosent be any bother…as long as we all travel at 50-56 and keep back from the lorry in front, and move over if we’re slower that the lorry behide all seems to go well. yes every now and again the coppers do pull 1 or 2 of us but thats down to the mad men trying to get notice… safe trucking all
