M5 both directions, cars at 53 mph

Is it just me, but do I meet all the cars that do a slow pace of 53 mph on a motorway, it seems to be Bristol to Birmingham to Bristol.
Could this be dangerous driving as trucks try to get passed and nearly cause near miss accidents due to these car drivers saving their fuel.

Its usually OAP’s doing their one trip of the week and trying to save an entire eggcup of fuel. Over the year they’ll save about £3.20… :unamused: :unamused:

I’ll give them a wave tomorrow then as I’m doing our Somerset and Dorset run.
Quite a lot of slow drivers on the M5, I think it’s because it’s a holiday route…Or their caravan’s fallen off.
Car drivers at 53 wont bother the Tesco double deckers though, “taking your safety seriously” at 40odd mph.

Not for me as limited to 52mph so unless I get to a hill they would be pulling away!!!

That bit baffled me? Why would you nearly cause an accident passing a car going slightly slower than you?

Dangerous driving! What you on about? The maximum speed for a car on a motorway 70 mph. There is no minimum speed unless indicated.

So why are tractors banned then? 53 isn’t dangerous, it’s the fact that the doddery old National Trust members will speed up as you pass them, then slow below 50 as they turn up Radio 2, speed up before letting up the accelerator to talk about their grandchildren they never see, a bit more 53 before a sudden slow down when they see signs for Cheddar Gorge (other overrated tourist attractions are available).

WRONG! the minimum mandatory speed on a motorway is 30MPH UNLESS otherwise indicated or directed.

This is exactly what this post got me thinking■■? Overtaking■■?

They shouldn’t be there ■■■■■■■ everyone off causing a numerous amount congestion and unnecessary lane changing from trucks into lane 2 and then cars into lane 3. They are all incompetent fools who have no idea the ■■■■ there causing behind them and shouldn’t be on the road.
If you can’t do 60 on a motorway in a car then you shouldn’t be there at all.
At no point on the public highway should a truck be overtaking a car, it’s ridiculous.

Here here

Isn’t it suprising just how fast these cars will go, you pull out to pass one thats doing 52 once you’re along side they speed up ,when they realise you have no limiter they are quite happy to sit up youre inside up to 70 ,then they go faster and pull in to middle lane ,after 2 miles you do the whole thing again.

Can I just ask why you are on this site?

Are you just here to make idiotic posts, most of which are not thought through, just to try and create some ‘debate’?

No minimum speed

You do much driving

It’s always the same cars. Vauxhall Agila, Suzuki WagonR, Honda Jazz, Citroen Berlingo. See one of those ahead and my hand goes for the indicator stalk, just like Tesco wagons.

and their hands are moving at the same speed as there mouths,or the driver is smoking when the nub end comes out the window they put the foot down.

Actually, the law as it stands doesn’t EXACTLY ban mopeds/scooters, it bans any vehicle under 125cc engine capacity.

which effectively bans MOST mopeds/scooters! however, some of the vespas/piaggio’s ETC ETC were made in odd sizes that are ABOVE 125cc therefore they are allowed!

This 30mph minimum speed on the motorway.

Where are you getting that from?

Perhaps you could post a link to this minimum speed limit on motorways ?

There is no minimum speed limit on UK motorways unless one is signposted.

As far as I’m aware the only rule is that you cannot drive so slowly as to cause a danger or obstruction to other road users.
