There was another one on the M11/A14 at Girton yesterday.
I saw one lurking at the AS24 site at Lokeren in Belgium! They’re trying their luck further out now.

And more to the point; would you stop if it was, knowing that you’d be guaranteed a two grand fine? Even if you didn’t know you’d got “hangers-on” under your trailer?
I don’t think I would; though I’m also thankful that I’m unlikely to face that dilemma.

It isn’t a guaranteed two grand fine as there are not many trucks not checked by the dogs at immigration on the train and the co2 won’t pick em up hangin on the axles
It says in the report a member of the public saw him laying on the motorway pulled him off to the side and then just drove off and it was the second member of the public who offered assistance, how could that first person be so heartless as to just drive off without at least phoning 999, or am i just a big softy.

Not at all BB, what you are is human.
To be brutally honest the death of this immigrant means nothing to me, I didn’t know him, I’d never have met him and his death will not affect me in the slightest. However I couldn’t drive by as though he was a bag of discarded rubbish. I might not even have stopped, but I sure as ■■■■ would’ve rang it in, because although he means nothing to me he probably meant the world to someone else.

I thought the same, if I was the lorry driver I would have carried on hoping nothing came of it and stuck my head in the sand.
Is there any chance you could run someone under your back wheels - and not realise you’d done it?
I’ve hardly felt a bump over the years when I’ve hit a small animal for example… Other drivers I know have hit Deer and it’s smashed up the front panel on the other hand. I’m pretty sure you’d know if you’d had THAT big an impact.
I can’t blame anyone for “not stopping” though. The culture of law as it is - £2500 fine. Who’s gonna put their hand up to THAT?

Whether it’s guaranteed or not is immaterial. The fact remains that even by unknowingly carrying these illegal immigrants you, as the driver, leave yourself open to potential prosecution, plus a heap of other hassles you really do not need. Yet the best advice our government can offer is not to stop within 100 kilometres of the ferry port.
Bottom line is this; they system is failing, and lorry drivers and their employers are carrying the can for it. That is totally unacceptable.

‘…if I was the lorry driver I would have carried on hoping nothing came of it and stuck my head in the sand…’
Likely here too …in the spirit of equality & diversity of opinion and seeing as how ‘skint’ the UK is alleged to be (as a Top Ten Rich Nation?) I demand respect to propose letting the clever-clogs detached Government and it’s web of minimum-wage agencies of ‘managers’ get on with sorting it
I’d likely also suggest despatching the carcass/remains in a dignified fashion RTS (France?) with repayment postage details (in sterling, please) politely sent by a pleasant courier to a UK located ghetto/Billing Address of ‘a commnity’ of folk with similar physical features/clothing-style/DNA - or maybe that Chakrabarti woman.
Use any money saved by keeping the simpering to a moderate level to renovate the integrity of the moat surrounding the geographical land-mass upon which we exist.
Maybe that’d all percolate back to Calais and possibly the poor soul’s place of origin too…
I’ll fetch my coat

I think you’d give Russell Brand a good run for his money in next years Plain English Campaign Gobbledegook award.
Whilst I have no time for these people, they cost the UK millions, they tie up resources from Police, NHS, Border Agency, Highways etc BUT, it is a human being and deserves to be treated as one.

As long as you’ve stopped at some point since coming back into the country how would they prove you’d brought them in?
I doubt I would know if they had fallen off the axle while trundling along, so no I wouldn’t stop.
your not going to own up anyway are you…even if you did know…the driver may be in trouble with Vosa
for not strapping the man he didn’t know about on…
No but as I was going East on South M25 on the west bound half a mile of Clackets there was a Police car and motorbike oficcers serching three of migrants with their hands up. Could have been connected. That was about 12 ish.
The driver, who did not initially stop at the scene, has since been tracked down. Police said they believe he was unaware of the incident, and as a result did not pull over at the time. He has not been arrested.

Well said!
Whilst I’m sure that most of us would take no pleasure in this situation happening to us and would probably feel very bad about it, the blunt truth is that if I were still living in the UK doing my old job, I’d care more about my own family and what being prosecuted for this type of thing would do to my own life and theirs.
I am, like all of us on here, am an ordinary truck driver going about my work and earning an honest living for want of a better word. People who enter the UK (and France for that matter!) illegally are breaking the law, they’re breaking the law by even being there in the first place and to see a total blind eye turned to that, so that people such as ourselves can then be prosecuted for unwillingly moving people who are already here illegally with the obvious permission of the respective governments, from A to B is an absurdity. So having said all that, I would most certainly drive on.
The British and French governments are the ones responsible for the de-humanisation here by targeting the one set of people who are not responsible for any of this, the truck drivers, and its because of that that truck drivers cannot afford to be sentimental.
It takes a heartless individual to stop, drag the dead or dying man to the side of the road and drive off. I can’t get my head around that one.

I find it hard to believe it happened quite like that. I’d guess that he was one of a few to stop in reality and for whatever reason so no point in remaining on the scene with others present. Perhaps he’d had a pint after work, had a bald tyre, maybe his tax or MOT had ran out the day before or any number of other incredibly minor things that the police would love to take note of as thanks for him staying on the scene. The idea that he simply got out of his car, dragged the man to the side of the road like a piece of wood in the way and then simply drove off leaving him there by himself is a bit unrealistic.
