M11 Overtaking ban

muckles:
Does anybody know how successful the trials were?

I have a report on the trial overtaking bans in the UK and while it’s true they do save time, it’s actually a matter of seconds over the journey. I think the one on the A14 saved upto 22 seconds. Now you see why they don’t publish the actual time it saves.

But of course as somebody who regularly uses the M11 to get to and from work, I can’t believe the amount of times I see trucks side by side for most of the distance between the a11 and Stanstead junctions.

I don’t think it’s just the time saving.

It’s also to stop the shockwave effect of traffic slowing to accommodate the truck that’s pulled out.

If that manoeuvre causes heavy braking it can lead to shunts further down the road.

The real answer is to have more lanes and a minimum speed of 60 for cars in dry conditions. This would at least remove some of the frustrations by getting rid of the numpties in cars doing 45 or 50.

Btw, I bet the M26 is next :unamused:
