M11 Overtaking ban

Car drivers will need a tin opener to prize lorries apart that are driving nose to tail when they want to exit a junction. It’s already a bloody nightmare for anyone who has the audacity to try and exit when there is a flipping line of trucks nose to tail bumming each other. [emoji3]

Good luck to anyone Who gets stuck behind one of the many 50mph limited vehicles run by Sainsbury’s,gonna be frustrating if your own wagon can do 56mph :open_mouth:

just over take them ■■■ it

Some will stick to it some won’t,go to Holland and belguim where is been enforced for years, won’t make a blind bit of difference you will still get trucks overtaking each other whether there’s a ban in place or not.

They don’t give a ■■■■. God knows how many times a day, I get a car that pulls right in front of me (Without indicating) then slams on the brakes, because they are too close to the vehicle in front. Or the one’s who have got to get in front of me at all cost’s to take the next exit.

Like to see it happen. They put restrictions on sections of roadworks, doesn’t stop the nutters from using that outside lane.

chester1:
Didn’t they do this on the m11 hills a few years back

There was a section n/b between J8 and J9 that had the overtaking restriction on until a couple of years ago, maybe this was a trial?

Not to worry, the adaptive cruise we’ll all have in probably another 5 years will automatically apply the brakes should you be too close to the lorry in front, and it’ll apply them again when the car or any driver (who will soon suss out how to make us brake involuntarily and do so deliberately) nips in the gap and brakes you.

Concertina is going to interesting to see, as i said before it might not work out quite how the experts think it will in real life compared with computer simulations.

This is insulting to the haulage industry. Yet again punishing the majority for the actions of the minority. It will create more problems than it solves. I’m going to guess coaches will be able to carry on as before.

the maoster:
I’m surprised it’s taken this long tbh. We only have ourselves to blame, I actually cringe with embarassment sometimes when I sit behind these elephant races between two trucks with a negligible speed differential. It reflects extremely badly on us and makes us ALL look like bloody amateurs!

Yes, I agree.
It’s alright coming of cruise for a few seconds to let them pass, but if you have another lorry up your arse, he’s pulling out to have a go too! :unamused:

Btw, I bet the M26 is next :unamused:

Does this mean slow cars not aloud in the slow lane … humm hope so just to back the cars up as well :smiling_imp:

I can just imagine a long line of HGVs in lane 1 & some superstar trying to overtake them in his gutless 4 cylinder 56mph limited 7.5 tonner - 3 weeks later…

What’s the law on lorries in convoy ?

im sure it says in the hgv highway code that if your been overtaken by a vehicle of similar speed your to slow down and let them pass ? not 100% if its right ? so nobody to blame but ourselves if it is! it takes seconds to slow down when been overtaken but with some drivers it means taking their foot off the door panel ■■ just saying.

An ‘insult’? Oh, the drama. The reason it will be implemented is, as ever, down to the actions of the half-witted element, and I’m not sure they make up the minority now either. Bring it on, I say, the more the better on two-lane DCs and motorways.

To be honest mate I’m on the coaches at the moment. So kinda suits you me . Means I won’t get caught behind some dozy pillock doing 53mph trying to pass someone doing 52mph. Lorries and coaches should be allowed to do 100 kph . If operators want to reduce the lorries max speed then that’s up to the operator.

Well, fair enough. It must be as annoying sat in a coach behind two idiots on a three-lane section of motorway as it is in a car in the same situation on a two-laner. Sadly plenty of ‘drivers’ think it’s OK to hold everyone else to ransom as they gain a few seconds.

Which is why there will end up being technology installed to stop this happening.

If you can only do 50mph what difference does it make to be 50 feet, 100ft back?

Bring on adaptive cruise.

Adaptive cruise, cool. If they just add adaptive steering also you will be able to have read of the paper watch telly or surf the net while keeping the drivers seat warm.

Be careful what you wish for, the more automation the less you’re required, the less money you’re worth.

Does anybody know how successful the trials were?

I have a report on the trial overtaking bans in the UK and while it’s true they do save time, it’s actually a matter of seconds over the journey. I think the one on the A14 saved upto 22 seconds. Now you see why they don’t publish the actual time it saves.

But of course as somebody who regularly uses the M11 to get to and from work, I can’t believe the amount of times I see trucks side by side for most of the distance between the a11 and Stanstead junctions.
