I came through this yesterday north bound just as they were releasing the trapped traffic after J23, totally over the top policing IMO, police cars everywhere…n/b was a mess around J23a with only the two outside lanes available [with extreme care], the hard shoulder and left lane were solid with traffic trying to get off, s/b @ J24 was solid and the A453 running alongside it was too…people were actually getting out of taxi`s, mini buses ect, and attempting to walk with their cases to the airport …now, that is a slap …Download was coming to an end as well, glad I got through when I did [13.30ish]…just what were the Police thinking ■■?

This costs the country £millions. The gantry must only cover lane 1, 2 at most, so get lane 3 open and running past scene. Put a bouncy castle underneath and taser him. I do have some sympathy but he isn’t going to kill himself jumping from a gantry. Get him down, get him arrested and re-open the road.

Looking at the picture of him on the Leicester mercury site does look like a jumper but some sort of activist.

It’s sad he feel he needs to be doing this, for whatever reason…
But the government/police need to sort out some sort of system for dealing with this type of incident. Not sure what that would be though, as even if you tazered or tranquilizer darted him, there would probably be legal ramifications if he then went and hurt himself post that. Maybe there isn’t really anything you can do other than talk him down, but what worries me is that once he’s down and charged, he will be released without proper care to possibly do it all over again…
He is trying to test me though. Loaded at worksop and need to get to himley by 5:00pm as the place is not open tomorrow I can’t keep in on and sit outside for a day.
I was caught on the A14 a few weeks back. I guy threatened to jump of a bridge so they closed both sides of the A14 for nearly two hours. They have got to sort out a better procedure for getting these jumpers down from where they are.
Looking at the stuff he’s written, it looks like this guy has some issues. As E8B says though, he’s more likely to end up in prison than somewhere he can get help.
