Captain Caveman 76:
My point is, fast moving traffic and slow moving traffic don’t mix well in an environment designed for fast flowing traffic. I don’t just see it every day, I live it.
Your not making a lot of sense.
You mentioned restricted 50 mph limit.
There should be no great speed differential.
Main problem to me seems to be driver impatience and lack of foresight.
I see that everyday.
No the point being made is ‘excessively’ slow speeds on roads which are designed to be used at higher speeds.Thereby needlessly creating a situation of traffic behind having to slow down and needlessly having to occupy overtaking lanes in addition to dangerous bunching caused by excessively low if not non existent speed differentials.Thereby defeating the object of using such roads.Bearing in mind that the speeds in question can often be slower than that of the NSL applicable to single lane single carriageway roads. IE what’s the point of motorways when the typical running speeds of both trucks and cars on them is ground down to around 55 mph possibly less.
Well fella I think we must drive on different roads.
Anytime I pass through a speed restricted area I seem to find most want to speed up and not slow down. In a 50 limit occasionally you may get someone sitting at 40 which is perfectly acceptable.
I don’t think I have ever seen any vehicle doing less than that.

It’s obvious that Adonis isn’t specifically referring to lower speed restricted sections of motorways.More like normal conditions subject to the 70 mph limit for cars at least. As for silly lower/variable motorway limits that’s just another recent piece of over regulation that’s understandably driving people away from motorways and dumping the results onto remaining less regulated roads. The M3 v A3 and other alternatives like A 246 and A 31 being a perfect example of that.
IE as I said what’s the actual point of motorways and other 70 mph + designed roads in this silly slow speed regime that you’re describing, bearing in mind the downside of getting stuck for hours between junctions in an unavoidable delay ?.When might as well use ordinary roads, with the upside of numerous alternative options in the event of any major delay,in that case.
Adonis.:
Just makes you the type of person who goes out of his way to be ignorant, cause hold ups and have no awareness of the problems you cause.
Problems I cause? If you consider overtaking a car travelling a few miles per hour slower than you a problem, then you might wish to contemplate your suitability for holding a licence.
You dawdle along at 50, a truck comes along at 52 and overtakes you causing a rolling slowdown in lane 2 for no reason.
You then speed up to 55, like you say you do and overtake him. His initial overtake was pointless and all because you are a dangerous moron who can’t drive confidently.
You’ll more than likely slow down to 50 again and cause yet more overtaking that doesn’t need to happen.
The point isn’t about overtaking the car, the point is there is no reason for the car to go that slowly.
A.
If a truck overtook me whilst doing 50mph, I certainly do not speed up
You’re assuming I do that, you’re projecting yourself mate, which gives a good insight into your driving mentality. I would bet my last quid you’re an elephant racer, and will never adjust your speed a few clicks. I’d bet my last quid on that.
There is a reason for a car to go that speed: the driver prefers to. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: it’s perfectly acceptable for a car to drive between 50-70mph on a motorway.
This is my last post on this matter, becasue we are acting like a pair of knobs here (but mine’s bigger). So please quote this post, have the last word, and lets carry on trucking shall we?
Don’t tend to get into much elephant racing when I do 60 but you carry on dawdling and causing problems for everyone, road commander.
Is it chilly up there on your high horse?
A.
PS. Any car overtaken by a truck under normal conditions has a driver who deserves their licence revoked.

Have you actually thought through what you’re saying. You’re running at an unnecessarily low speed that’s far lower than the speed limit for your vehicle.Resulting in trucks having to then needlessly occupy lane 2 for a long period of time to overtake you bearing in mind the resulting stated ‘few miles per hour’ low speed differential.
Then the road planners have got the nerve to say we need more expensive and environmentally damaging motorway capacity and dangerous hard shoulder running just to appease those like you who think that 50-55 mph is a reasonable running speed for cars on a motorway. When the better solution would be to nick those like you for driving without consideration for other road users.Along the lines of if you don’t want to run at motorway type speeds then stay off the bleedin motorways and in fact any road that’s subject to a 70 mph speed regime for cars.
Also bearing in mind that such ignorant behaviour is also a major factor in many people unnecessarily deciding to use relatively less suitable single lane single carriage A and B roads for long distance journeys.Rather then getting caught up in the inevitable slow and potentially dangerous motorway bunching that’s so often caused by those with your ideas. All that in exchange for the possibility of getting caught between junctions in massive delays caused by the results of such needless bunching when it all inevitably goes wrong.

Come on fella keep up.I was not replying to Adonis.
Can I ask do you drive on the UKs roads on a regular basis?
Do you know the rules of the road or are you one that likes to make his own up.
If drivers drove as they should there would be far less problems.

Advice mate seeing as you’re new…
.NEVER take Carryfast on, I aint saying he will win the argument, but his masterful tactics include a 5 page verbal tennis match, grinding you down to the point of suicide, and boring the arse off you by lecturing you on 70s politics, interspersed with high tech jargon that he has googled but claimed to be of his own knowledge…you have been warned.
I don’t use the Mway in my car very often, but today I did, and you tend to notice things you never usually notice sat up in a truck.
A complete cluster ■■■■ of mega proportions, the busy 4 lane stretch was like a cross between the Wacky Races and the Indianapolis 500, cars jockeying for position in the roadworks, absolutely zero lane discipline, middle lane hoggers travelling like some kind of motorcade procession, and the ‘‘Slow lane’’ becoming the ‘‘Fast lane’’ and vice versa.
A job that really needs sorted…big style.

Thanks for the warning Robroy.I have read some of his posts and know exactly what you mean.
Although he rambles on and on in his own version of English he does amuse me for the time being.

Anyway i think if that van was doing 60mph , the accident wouldn’t of happened as fed ex would of been on the inside lane and van driver in the middle lane and as a professional driver fed ex would of slowed down in time before hitting stationary aim truck and nobody would of died.
The slow car drivers who do about 50 mph or less who are saving fuel , being awkward , taking their time or lack driving confidence are the ones causing problems on the motorway , not the boy racers doing 80 or 90 , and i bet 99 per cent do not realise that.
Thats why i think there should be a series of TV adverts explaining the consequences to their driving , such as pushing artics into the middle lane causing congestion , foreign left hand side drivers side swiping cars in the middle lane and major accidents where people die
I must get more than my fair share of slow drivers whether I’m in my car or a truck makes no difference. I always seem to get stuck behind car drivers trying to eek out every extra MPG out of their cars. I regularly and Sat behind someone doing 5-10 mph lower then the speed limit even in good ear dry conditions. It is only going to get worse sadly we are stuck with selfish I’m sticking at daft speeds for no reason because I can mentality.

But you expecting them to go faster than they may want to just to suit you is equally selfish.
The roads are shared space. Yes, other users’ acts can be annoying, but deal with it. There is little point getting ■■■■■■ off over it because that’s the kind of thing that leads to this idiotic tactic of brake testing that is employed by the particular hard of thinking.

Most definitely.
And how does cars needlessly travelling at 50-55 mph added to all that fix anything as opposed to just adding to the problems.
While I’d suggest we actually need more Indy 500 as in the case of German autobahn type speeds and lane discipline and US type truck speeds. While permanently removing the licences of anyone needlessly running at silly unnecessarily low speeds, let alone stopping for no reason in a live lane.Rather than the present safety car situation of road captains in any/every lane and full course yellow flag variable limit or at best draconian enforcement of the unrealistic 70 mph limit conditions that we’ve got.Bearing in mind that in many cases what ‘looks’ like lane hogging is often just a case of drivers trying to overtake the road captains who are running at silly needless slow speeds or deliberately varying their speed, without then getting themselves nicked by a bleedin motorway speed scamera doing it.
Let alone drunk drivers or confused drivers losing the plot and just stopping whenever and wherever they feel like it or driving the wrong way along a motorway.Or for that matter dangerous hard shoulder live lane running so called ‘smart’ motorways which are anything but.
All of which increasingly makes the UK motorway system a totally pointless dangerous liability which contradicts its original design intention. With much of the European system going the same way at least in terms of similar over regulation of the speed regime defeating the object of using it.Although not so much the problems we have here of the ‘nutters’ in whatever form added to that.

How is expecting anyone who has passed a test to say they are a safe competent driver, driving at the speed limit or to suit the traffic and conditions selfish? Being selfish is when you only think about yourself and no one else, as in being considerate to others. In other words not needlessly holding up the flow of traffic to suit your own agenda of saving a small amount of fuel. By me expecting drivers to drive as they were taught I. E progressive driving is far from selfish.
I’m obviously wrong though doesn’t matter that I have passed 3 vehicle tests with my most recent one being C+E with the instructor not being able to pick me up for one minor after 19 years of driving socially and for a living.
In fact if someone wants to drive slower I’m not totally against it, if the road is quiet enough and your not holding anyone up then crack on, but use those things called mirrors and when you see traffic backing up behind you that you’re holding up get a move on so your not being selfish and holding up the flow of traffic.
Did you even read what I wrote? Go back and try again. Say it out loud if you need to. It might help you to understand it.
As for your three test passes - who gives a ■■■■? There’s plenty of steering wheel attendants our there who have done the same yet would be out of their depth on a sit-on lawnmower.
