If you can’t understand how being unexpectedly slow on a busy motorway is dangerous then you really shouldn’t have a licence.

A.

Shouldn’t professional drivers expect the unexpected?

And we get to what makes you drive like the utter moron that you are, you’re a sad individual who’s on his own little crusade, thinking he’s a glowing example of how to drige and is teaching everyone that they should all do your speed because you are road commander and you are right.

I think it was you who expects everybody to drive at your speed, not him. But that’s the problem with boat chasers. Completely blinkered

Gosh, you sound angry. I wonder what you’d do if you were on your HGV driving test, and you came upon a car doing 50mph. Actually, what would you do? And why? Don’t avoid the question Mr. A. What would you do, and why?

Flash his headlights, pull up to within two feet of the bumper, and blast the horn…

I think we should ALL (myself included) remember the topic of this thread and the fact that ANYONE can read this forums threads.

We wouldn’t want the public to think we are a bunch of bellends would we?..

Overtake the dawdling halfwit, like I would be expected to do.

What would you do on your car test, if you were on the motorway?

Do you also hold traffic up on single carriageway by doing 50? You’ll also be the type who won’t let faster traffic pass, aren’t you?

At my speed? No.

At the appropriate speed for their vehicle and the road, yes.

You do realise car learner drivers wouldn’t be taking their test on the motorway, don’t you? So I wouldn’t be on the motorway on my car test. You must brush up on your knowledge Mr. A.

On single carriageways I drive to conditions, and generally don’t drive faster than 50-55mph. But as the maximum speed limit for cars on single carriageways is 60mph (as opposed to 70mph) then surely you’d agree it’s more acceptable to drive at 50mph on a single carriaeway than it is on a motorway?

Faster traffic passes me easily as cars are very powerful these days, and no, I do not try to stop faster vehicles pass. I do the opposite.

They will be next year though, so answer the question. Or we’ll change it slightly, what speed would you do on an unrestricted dual carriageway on a car test?

So you admit that it’s not acceptable to drive at 50 on a motorway? You’ll also drive faster on a single carriageway road than on a motorway, why? Why do you even go on motorways if you aren’t prepared to travel with the flow of the traffic?

Again, you cause people to overtake because you are unable to drive with confidence, you really shouldn’t be on the road.

I’d drive at any acceptable speed between 50mph and 70mph to demonstrate I have the confidence to do so, which I do. But if I chose to drive most of the dual carriageway part at a minimum speed of 50mph, I’m sure I’d pass.

Adonis.:

You’re putting words in my mouth, pal. Go back to page 21 and you’ll see my original quote

Blimey! I never exceed 60mph in my car on motorways, and generally do 50-55mph.

I drive at roughly the same speed on single carriageways or motorways: between 50-60mph. Nothing wrong with that. All acceptable and within the parameters of the law. Sometimes vehicles catch up with me, and sometimes I catch up with others.

Adonis.:

A.

I drive day in day out for a living, and would take any vehicle anywhere (legally) without batting an eyelid. I just prefer a slower pace of life, and don’t see why I should rush myself to suit others. Gone are my people pleasing days.

50-70mph is perfectly acceptable for motorway driving. Under 50mph is dangerous in my opinion. I’m limited to 52 in my lorry, and I do loads of overtaking in a shift. That’s to be expected, so I don’t lose sleep over it, like you seem to.

Just makes you the type of person who goes out of his way to be ignorant, cause hold ups and have no awareness of the problems you cause.

50 is fine but 49 is dangerous, please hand in your licence for the good of us all.

Problems I cause? If you consider overtaking a car travelling a few miles per hour slower than you a problem, then you might wish to contemplate your suitability for holding a licence.

You dawdle along at 50, a truck comes along at 52 and overtakes you causing a rolling slowdown in lane 2 for no reason.

You then speed up to 55, like you say you do and overtake him. His initial overtake was pointless and all because you are a dangerous moron who can’t drive confidently.

You’ll more than likely slow down to 50 again and cause yet more overtaking that doesn’t need to happen.

The point isn’t about overtaking the car, the point is there is no reason for the car to go that slowly.

If a truck overtook me whilst doing 50mph, I certainly do not speed up

You’re assuming I do that, you’re projecting yourself mate, which gives a good insight into your driving mentality. I would bet my last quid you’re an elephant racer, and will never adjust your speed a few clicks. I’d bet my last quid on that.

There is a reason for a car to go that speed: the driver prefers to. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: it’s perfectly acceptable for a car to drive between 50-70mph on a motorway.

This is my last post on this matter, becasue we are acting like a pair of knobs here (but mine’s bigger). So please quote this post, have the last word, and lets carry on trucking shall we?

Problems I cause? If you consider overtaking a car travelling a few miles per hour slower than you a problem, then you might wish to contemplate your suitability for holding a licence.

Have you actually thought through what you’re saying. You’re running at an unnecessarily low speed that’s far lower than the speed limit for your vehicle.Resulting in trucks having to then needlessly occupy lane 2 for a long period of time to overtake you bearing in mind the resulting stated ‘few miles per hour’ low speed differential.

Then the road planners have got the nerve to say we need more expensive and environmentally damaging motorway capacity and dangerous hard shoulder running just to appease those like you who think that 50-55 mph is a reasonable running speed for cars on a motorway. When the better solution would be to nick those like you for driving without consideration for other road users.Along the lines of if you don’t want to run at motorway type speeds then stay off the bleedin motorways and in fact any road that’s subject to a 70 mph speed regime for cars.

Also bearing in mind that such ignorant behaviour is also a major factor in many people unnecessarily deciding to use relatively less suitable single lane single carriage A and B roads for long distance journeys.Rather then getting caught up in the inevitable slow and potentially dangerous motorway bunching that’s so often caused by those with your ideas. All that in exchange for the possibility of getting caught between junctions in massive delays caused by the results of such needless bunching when it all inevitably goes wrong.
