M1 lorry & minibus crash

Yes, this is true. From the description of the scene just before the incident given by a fellow TruckNet member, my prediction is that the FedEx driver will be acquitted at trial. We will of course have to wait and see, but that is my prediction.

Dr Damon:
Hello Ladies and Gents,

I am new to this forum although I have been an interested observer for a while.I will introduce myself as Damon and have a big involvement in road transport in many ways.

I was originally going to comment on the self driving lorry thread as I know a fair bit about the future of this and can say it is definitely going to happen and a lot sooner than some of you seem to think.More about that later.

Now on to yesterdays horrific accident.First of all my condolences to all involved. This kind of accident is exactly why self driving vehicles will be taking over from the incompetent human being.Drivers prove time and time again they are not responsible enough to drive a car never mind a heavy truck.

This type of accident could happen to an awful lot of car and truck drivers any time any day. They will insist on driving as if nothing unexpected is going to happen.I travel up and down the country regularly and cringe when I see how litte distance vehicles leave between each other.Someone earlier said one driver did not react in time. Maybe he did not but you can probably guarantee he was also too close to the vehicle he was following for the speed he was traveling at.

Damon.

Some of you are a strange breed.I say some because I have been driving lorries since some of you were in nappies although never my main occupation.
Maybe the problem is the same reaction as I got to my first post.Drivers in general do not take anything seriously.
I have also noticed how a lot of posters on here like to blame everything but a truck driver.Sorry guys and Gals but in a lot of cases your driving is attrocious. All this talk about no time to react. The problem is many never leave time to react especially if something unexpected happens.
I could have given you some good info about driverless trucks but because a lot do not want it to happen you dismiss it the same as you dismiss the fact you could well be a bad driver.

Drive safely

Damon.

Quite a statement when we are all unaware of the actual facts of this case, apparently one artic had stopped in lane 1 for an as yet unknown reason, maybe breakdown, maybe driver stupidity, maybe something in between. We don’t know whether either truck driver was on day 1 or day 6 of their week, whether either had just had a break in NP or had been driving several hours. We also don’t know how many days and hours per day that the mini-bus driver had been working or driving since a decent break.

Possible scenario: stationary vehicle in lane 1, mini-bus also in lane 1, 2nd artic in lane 2, neither spot the fact that there is a stationary vehicle in lane 1 until almost on top of it, mini-bus pulls into the path of the 2nd artic rather than breaking/going for the hard shoulder at a point where there is no possibility of either human or computer reacting to avoid a collision.

Wake up Vid I was not talking about that individual accident.I was talking about drivers in general.I happen to know how many accidents are caused by driver error when it come to commercial vehicles.Do you?

As soon as i read 31 year old and ■■■■■■ we all knew who it would be.

Yes, this is true. On my childrens’ lives I swear, from the moment the first details emerged, that when the drunken driver was named I knew he would have an eastern European name. Pretending that there isn’t a huge drink-driving issue among eastern Europeans in the name of political correctness doesn’t help anybody.

With the risk of upsetting all the lefties on here mr monk is correct, these EE lads have a big alcohol culture

What absolute rubbish YT.Why do so many come on here and talk complete nonsense?
I can assure you the British have much more of problem with alcohol than most others.
Backing up your silly comments would be interesting.

But i think this may be just 10 percent from all drivers who was use car when was drunk.

As soon as the news broke I said to Mrs Socketset I wouldn’t be surprised if it was was EE…

Right then…I’m being 100% serious here guys, and not being sarcastic.
I really did not know that drink driving issues were commonplace among EEs especially EE truckers.
Are there official stats on this or what ?

TBH, I thought East EU, but decided that was unfair to make that assumption.

I’m not aware of any stats Rob. I think, talking purely about myself, that I’m aware of more reports in the press about foreign drivers being charged with drink driving than UK drivers. I can immediately recall a Waberers being pulled on the slip road at Knutsford with a silly high blood level count and at a conference where the head of the DVSA spoke, he spoke about the more cavalier approach to regulations by East EU drivers, tacho fiddles, maintenance, drink. It’s fair to say he thought as a percentage, they were more likely to fall foul of the law.

People complain about stereotypes, but they arise from certain characteristics being reinforced. The Germans are generally organised, the Italians are excitable. The Poles are often hard working and punctual, downside, they have a reputation for being hard drinkers.

Obviously not speaking about AIM, whom I understand to be a reputable outfit, but the way some of the East EU drivers are treat, it’s hardly surprising they drink.

hello everybody
just got my attention this
anybody could tell me please how this happened?
from what i understand ■■■■■■ one parked on the nearside beleiving he is on the hard shoulder while bus and other lorry piled up to him■■?
im from Poland and i was like i hope he is not Polish but…oh well my god what a tragedy.
hgv employment going mad recently so many monkies everywhere cannot even say a word or read!! employers providing shate accomodation for eu drivers 75% companies are f…cowboys taking the chances!!!
i was looking for a job the other day i was shocked with chin at my feet.i did all my papers here living here for last 12 years and i have seen so many companies paying so crap wages that is unbelievable…
recently i went to see the boss of the company and he asked me to translate “download the card driver” to the one of the employee…f…joke!! its everywhere like that
well preety common.basically anyone with 200 dollars from Romania can buy himself a licence and go on the UK roads without any tests, checkups etc.

200 bucks for a licence - gets back to my point about checking previous experience etc etc.

Pick a different thread or create one of your own to make whatever your point is, 8 people died here with 3 more lives hanging in the balance. Whatever you’re trying to sell do it in a more respectful manner!

I find it refreshing that a few more members on here are starting to voice the truth. Brexit is happening because immigration is ■■■■■■■ the majority of the country off.

Let’s bring some truths forward regarding this case. Tragic? Yes? But opportunities to learn from grim circumstances have always been there. Not long ago an EE was busy scrolling music and wiped out the majority of a family by mangling them to death under a tail lift of the truck in front. Could it have been any other driver? Maybe…but it wasn’t. It was an imported selfish dangerous knobhead.

Was the EE driver in this case ■■■■■■ and caused death? Certainly involved for sure. Imported? Probably.

Did some/most on here think initially an EE was involved? Yes. Have we all seen crap EE driving? Yes. Were most of these EE drivers imported? Probably. Do we see drivers watching laptops and reckon they will be left ■■■■■■ EE’s? Yes.

Do DVSA almost exclusively tug EE drivers? YES. Why? We all know why. Because they don’t give a f**k.

Do they park on hard shoulders? Yes. Do they run bent? Yes. Do they use magnets? Yes.

Do they chuck litter everywhere? Yes-seen it with my own eyes. Do they do illegal excessive hours? Yes. Seen it last week where I worked.

SO GIVEN ALL THE ABOVE WHY DOES THE CRAP AND CORRUPT HAULAGE INDUSTRY EMPLOY THESE SELFISH IGNORANT POORLY SKILLED DRIVERS?

Because they are cheap. Is it about time the hauliers STOP employing cheap EE labour? Yes.

WE HAVE ENOUGH CRAP DRIVING LORRIES WITHOUT IMPORTING MORE. LETS FFS START BRINGING SOME F**KING PROFESSIONALISM TO THIS INDUSTRY.

Keep up at the back EB, magnets are so yesterday. It’s those computer board thingys now.

very good post sounds like we all need to stand together against the employers and tell them no more ? but doesent that sound rather like one of those “socialist left wing unions” you know the ones that never do anything for anyone ?

Damon, that’s utter and complete rubbish, you seem full of challenges to other people’s opinions yet provide nothing for yourself, I and I suspect others are not talking about Saturday night in the local town centre or car drivers, I was talking about the specific attitudes towards alchohol in general in other countries and the link to driving and in particular when on the job as a truck driver.
You are coming across as an ignorant self righteous idiot desperate for reaction.

Need to print this out and put it on the back of my trailer next to the “if you can’t see my mirrors” sticker and over the “cyclist beware” one…

Really Norfolkman and a few on here are coming across as pretty ignorant and stupid.I am not talking rubbish at all.
Everything I have said is completely true and I can back my facts up. Can you?

I am not desperate for any reaction.I came on here to give my opinion which I am entitled to do but it looks like I am dealing
with a bunch of dead heads who cannot see the reality of the whole situation.
It is a strange trait of the British to blame everyone else but themselves and that is blatantly obvious on this site.
Some drivers need to realise they are the problem and until driverless vehicles become the future more and more innocent people will die because of these selfish drivers who are totall unaware of the dangers of how quickly accidents can happen.

Goodnight.
Damon.

Back up your facts as you claim.
Yet another pathetic forum troll flouncing off when no one praises them. Most on here I would hazard have forgotten more than you will ever know, you announced yourself as someone in the industry so post these facts and figures.
Good night Damon, I’ll tell your mum to tuck you in when she gets home…eventually. X

Agree with most of your post EB except the cheap labour. Are they really cheap? In my experience at Lidl’s where approx 90% are EE drivers they are earning the same money that I was. They mostly seem to be Ltd as well so they’re paying very little tax.
