A very quick question which I was asked elsewhere and which is outside my scope, will the minibus have been fitted with a tachograph?

Or a dashcam? Could provide key evidence if the memory card is intact.

Am i the only one who breathed a slight sigh of relief when learning of the name of the alleged over the limit driver, and another slight sigh of relief now that he is confirmed from another country.
No, i’m not finger pointing or suggesting we natives are any better or worse drivers or people, it’s purely an admission that i was slightly relieved, and i’m not sure how i feel about myself over that either. No, you aren’t the only one!
Yet another Eastern European appears to be under the impression they can come across to our “once great” Island and act as they do in their third world, backward [zb]!It’s scum like this that need lethal injections!
Good posts, the both of you.
Yeah 'cause no British truck driver has ever crashed when ■■■■■■ up? The xenophobic ■■■■■■■■ from some [zb] on here is depressing in its stupidity.
Oh shut up snowflake. The guy is Polish. I know you’ re gutted but that’s the way it goes.

You feel the same as most of us do Juddian. Totally ■■■■■■ off with this ridiculous wave of ■■■■■■ up crap EE drivers we have had over the last decade. Films on laptops, Romanian cab dances, phones welded to ears, cans of Tyskie lager and bottles of vodka everywhere, duplicate cards, magnets, complete disregard for this country and it’s inhabitants.
Only last week I was working for Whistl, and a Polish subbie got kicked off site when it came to light he was working 6 days EVERY WEEK
![]()
(The same one that woke me up in the yard when he rammed the jaws of his fifth wheel into the loaded trailer he was trying to hook up to next to me… Knobhead )
6 days a week is legal though? As long as sufficient rest is taken? A chap at my place does it, regularly starts his next week later so he can get the 45+ in…
What a distressing tragedy this is.
Let me tell you a story about a friend of mine who I used to work with back in 2006/7. He wanted to go agency for various reasons and approached said agencies in Southampton for Cl 2 work.
He was told that the books were closed to all but Polish drivers and that they were renting houses in Southampton and filling them up with EE blokes (three to a room) and punting them to firms locally.
Labour on the cheap. Heaven for some business owners.
But you’re giving a guy keys to an expensive vehicle (plus load) - where’s the references and proof of experience - do they have convictions?
I’ve lived abroad in two different countries, Greece and Italy and guess what - they do certain things differently over there - just like we do things differently over here and there’s stuff which maybe the norm in EE which is a big no - no here.
And no, I’m not a racist by any stretch of the imagination and never have been but certain behaviour here by immigrants needs to be addressed.
I’m sorry if I have offended anyone but some imported guys need taking in hand and told how it is in the UK.
I kinda understand where Eager is coming from. We have enough home grown boneheads without getting some more in.
Dr Damon:
Hello Ladies and Gents,I am new to this forum although I have been an interested observer for a while.I will introduce myself as Damon and have a big involvement in road transport in many ways.
I was originally going to comment on the self driving lorry thread as I know a fair bit about the future of this and can say it is definitely going to happen and a lot sooner than some of you seem to think.More about that later.
Now on to yesterdays horrific accident.First of all my condolences to all involved. This kind of accident is exactly why self driving vehicles will be taking over from the incompetent human being.Drivers prove time and time again they are not responsible enough to drive a car never mind a heavy truck.
This type of accident could happen to an awful lot of car and truck drivers any time any day. They will insist on driving as if nothing unexpected is going to happen.I travel up and down the country regularly and cringe when I see how litte distance vehicles leave between each other.Someone earlier said one driver did not react in time.Maybe he did not but you can probably guarantee he was also too close to the vehicle he was following for the speed he was traveling at.
Damon.
Does the self-important bell end forum close on bank holiday weekends, or something?

Don’t post here much but I passed the scene around 10 minutes before it happened. Just want to let you guys know what i saw leading up to the accident.Im not going to suggest blame, thats for the Police.
The AIM logistics HGV was parked in lane 1 of the M1 S/B with parking brake on NO HAZARDS, NO BRAKE LIGHTS just before the bridge but after the slip road.
The first I saw of him stationary in the wrong lane was when I exited on the slip road at J14, I couldn’t believe what I saw, It defied all logic. I didn’t see him until the last moment but luckily was on the slip road.
Purely my opinion, but now with info the Police have released I can only assume he decided to take a break on the hard shoulder, but was so pis sed didn’t realise he was in lane 1.
The way he was parked in a live lane was very disorientating because of the slip road as in he looked like he was on H/S.
RIP to all on minibus and sympathy to fedex driver as what I saw it could have easily been anyone of us who hit that bus.
I take it you have spoken to the police with your witness evidence?
The company I work for has reported it after I made them aware of what I saw without knowing at the time the consequences, along with retrieving footage from truck. Obviously my employer is taking it very seriously.
A completely avoidable waste of life.
Yes, I can only imagine the pain of the families. If the dashcam has recorded the data, that could be vital evidence, if I was you I would write down everything you remember and you will likely be visited by the police. Writing your evidence now whilst your memory is still fresh is best.
Second the suggestion to write everything down asap. Few years ago I was walking the dog and witnessed a fight. Police didn’t take my official statement until a couple of months later. Needless to say I’d forgotten a lot of detail.

Yes, this is true. On my childrens’ lives I swear, from the moment the first details emerged, that when the drunken driver was named I knew he would have an eastern European name. Pretending that there isn’t a huge drink-driving issue among eastern Europeans in the name of political correctness doesn’t help anybody.
They can charge as many people as they want, but it doesn’t mean all are guilty of anything…who remembers the artic driver and the minibus driver carrying the hen do party .both drivers were charged. express.co.uk/news/uk/527123 … wrongdoing …

not sure how quickly the accident happened but if the bus had broken down surely the minibus driver had a duty of care by getting his passengers away from the vehicle,i realise the poor guy paid for it with his life but if it happened say 10 min after the vehicle broke down he would have had time to get everyone off thereby saving his life as well as theirs,i know hindsight is a wonderful thing but we are allways being told by police/highways to get out the vehicle and stand away from it in a safe place. The minibus wasn’t broken down, the AIM truck has been reported by a driver on here to be stopped in lane one with no brake lights or hazards on, no mention as to whether he had his tail lights on though. You can’t apportion blame too much on the minibus driver if indeed a stationary truck parked in lane one was the catalyst of the accident other than why did neither driver see the truck that was stationary in lane one.
ahh right, didn’t know that,i read somewhere it was the minibus broken down, now I know

Right then…I’m being 100% serious here guys, and not being sarcastic.
I really did not know that drink driving issues were commonplace among EEs especially EE truckers.
Are there official stats on this or what ?

With the risk of upsetting all the lefties on here mr monk is correct, these EE lads have a big alcohol culture

What absolute rubbish YT.Why do so many come on here and talk complete nonsense?
I can assure you the British have much more of problem with alcohol than most others.
Backing up your silly comments would be interesting.
What a load of rubbish claiming only the ee lads like a drink , our local rag is full every week of d/d and 99% don’t look like ee names to me , I know 99% of the young ones from this country would prefer a latte / capachino to a pint these days , but to make out were some hollier than thou tee totalers is just laughable

Don’t know about official stats but where I used to work at Lidl, Northfleet where it is mostly EE drivers there always seemed to be an unusually large amount of beer cans in rubbish bins.
On one occasion I was following a Romanian lad when we stopped at red lights, a drink can came flying out of his drivers window, when I drew level I could see it was a beer can.
Just before I left an EE driver came to work at 18:00 smelling of alcohol, he admitted he had been in the pub until 13:00 and was sent home by DHL and agency was told they didn’t want him again. Later found out that he was driving for another company, CSL, at Lidl’s even though they had been told of his drink problem.
