A crash that has brought hundreds of motorists to a standstill on the M1 may be linked to the death of a woman in a Derbyshire village, police have said.
Police were called to an address in Borrowash at 11:00 GMT on Friday by a man who had also been injured in the incident involving the dead woman.
Officers were called to the crash on the southbound carriageway near Trowell services 30 minutes later.
The M1 is expected to be closed in both directions for several hours.
Nottinghamshire Police said the M1 - between junction 25 and 26 - would be closed “for some time” following the crash between a vehicle and a pedestrian, while traffic website Nottingham Travelwise expected the closure to last for a “minimum of four to five hours”.
Meanwhile, the man injured in Borrowash is now receiving treatment in hospital, Derbyshire Police said.
A force spokesman said: “The investigations are in their early stages and no more information is available at this time.”
Looking at the info on various traffic websites, I think it’s fair to say the M1 and all surrounding roads around Nottingham are well and truly ckuffed.

Just spoke to my old man he been stuck in it all day now run out of hours trying to get somewhere to park and every services in the area is full. I’m glad I went up to Leeds yesterday and not today now hopefully the m1 will be clear by monday
all this because 1 guy who topped his misses somewhere else crashed into 1 truck southbound? if so,i rest my case about how the uk is totally up its own jacksy with h&s overkill and the like.
Came on at junction 5 this afternoon just gone half 12 and there were signs expecting major delays from 14-16 so people had plenty of warning to come of and use a different route… Looks like it is has only just cleared in the past couple of hours… madness!
