M1 Closed J22

Anyone stuck or know what’s involved? I’m stuck southbound, northbound completely empty. Fire engine came down about 5 minutes ago.

There’s not much movement out of the M69 by the looks of it, and there seems to be a lot of cameras “switched off” right now…
This data is supposed to be “live” btw… J22 at the top here, J21 is where all the red dots are.
The black dots represent “switched off cameras”.

according to twitter leicester police say serious accident persons trapped air ambulance in attendance

I’ve just looked and found cameras suddenly “off”. So we can’t watch perhaps? There are people walking across the other empty carriageway, yes it’s closed but I still think it somewhat stupid. If it suddenly reopened you’ll find many annoyed motorists booting it up ths way to make up time. Police collision van just went down, and now a Womble towing the rubber-necker screens.

I just looked on camera, poss 4x4 in trees. Just erecting incident screens so I would assume a long closure. They are turning traffic around and escorting back to last junction.

Northbound’s reopened, the clever chap wandering about on it soon did his best Usain Bolt impression.

Mitsubishi L pickup thing went into the trees and rolled. Not a pretty sight.

Why is it always on a Friday when you are trying to get home.

Same last Friday. Did the same run every day up the M6 to Preston and back. No queues at all Monday to Thursday. Then Friday, tipped load at Sandbach services, 15 mile tailback.

Paid by the hour so it was all good :grimacing:

Maybe people drive more erratically to get home and start the weekend. Or in this case, forget to strap your load correctly.

Both lanes of the motorway were closed for several hours

For a car on the side of the motorway. OK, close both ways to land the chopper. Once it’s took off get the other side open immediately, close a lane near the crash site, 2 absolute maximum and get that moving too.

I swear these people get some kind of cheap thrill closing roads off. Not so cheap for everyone else though.

Terry T, I can assure you there is no cheap thrill dealing with dead and seriously injured people, or closing roads so frustrated drivers can abuse you, or standing on closures when its cold, wet or even very hot. If the vehicle has collided with the central reservation, evidence is across all lanes. You can see in yesterday’s photos, that incident screens were used. This is to prevent rubber neckers and ease delays on the opposite c/way caused by the stoppage whilst the helicopter lands and takes offs. Nearly all motorway closures are Police led incidents and the Police are under greater pressure to reopen roads quicker but a collision investigation officer will take as long as it takes to gather their evidence and to make sure the evidence they gather is 100% correct.

Why was the other side closed for several hours. Helicopter landing and take off I can understand.

Near to me there was a fight on a motorway junction roundabout. Some road rage loonies got into a fight at the top of a slip road. The police were called and the slip road was shut for something like 3 hours while ‘Investigations’ were carried out. No crash, just a scuffle. It’s ridiculous.

I’m not sure why opposite c/way was closed for so long. It does seem too long. I think a lot of these ‘investigations’ is arse covering by the services, either Police, Fire, Ambulance or Highways as if it goes wrong, Mr ‘where’s there blame - there’s a claim’ will sue you for anything. And in my experience, the employer won’t back you up !!

Northbound M1 wasn’t shut for hours, just while the two Air Ambulances were there. It took 45 minutes to cut the passenger out so the chopper would’ve been there for a while. The rubbernecker screens were moved to where the fire engines were once the casualties were taken away; I was in the passenger seat by that time so I could see over the screens and see the state of the pickup. A good advert for the L200s’ strength I would say. No skidmarks or barrier damage, the pickup appeared to just drive off the M1 into the trees.
The Highways and Police personnel were sound enough, although retarded car drivers who couldn’t reverse and turn around, drive back up the carriageway without asking what was happening must’ve tried the guys’ patience.
Arrived back at the mill by 6pm, about 3 hours late but me and my mate still had our legs intact.

That’s not so bad then, it’s says closed both ways for hours in the article.

Still, surely they could’ve opened the outside lane to work on the vehicle in the trees if no damage was done on/to the carriageway.

sadly, the lady passenger involved in this accident has died.

I used to do London every day, I gave up at Newport Pagnell on Friday afternoons as I couldn’t face fighting my way up the M1/M6 to Brum.

I’m for the Valleys everyday at the Mo, God loves Wales.

Same again on M6 today. Sat nav said 2 hour 20 journey time. Crash at knutsford made it 3 hours 30. First queue I’ve sat in all week.
