When the government announced the start of the lockdown on 23 March, the catering brands Burger King, Costa, Greggs and KFC franchises were closed. Subsequently, Moto has had to furlough 2,900 of its 5,000 staff across the 45 strong network.
Since then Moto has been determined to provide hot food where it can. “At first we reopened the West Cornwall Pasty facilities at 16 of our sites and then looked at other solutions at different sites,” he said.
This past week Moto is trialling a pre-order hot food service at its Ferrybridge MSA off the M62 and A1(M) in Yorkshire.
The idea is to use a ‘dark kitchen’ for pre-ordered food, where HGV drivers’ phone ahead and collect orders on arrival. If successful, he said, the scheme will be rolled out to other sites where there is a demand.

Fair enough if they are going to do this BUT…they need to advertise it more so drivers are aware of it otherwise it will fall on it’s face, won’t be commercially viable and MOTO will likely use it as an excuse to shut it down also
What’s the big deal, just carry your own food and drinks,no chance of catching the virus if you dont actually go into the services.
That’s the problem ,laziness, people have got used to convenience food a bit too much.

What about those who end up on an unplanned night out or don’t have a cab with a fridge?

From my own experience…
Breakfast is delicious. No fridges in any of ours and once Eddie decides to mess you about for six hours whilst loading you, you don’t get home.
Wasn’t my choice but, when you’re stranded you’re stranded.

Pre ordered food, can’t see the difference really to just opening up Greggs again. Only difference is you walk in and order a Bacon Roll.
Thing is if they open greggs. They then have to reopen the manafacturing and delivery etc just.deliver to motorway services. Wouldt.be worrth in financially
Plus if they did reopen word.wpuld.get round and.then.end up with people.driving there for a pasty just because there open

It has to be time to consider driving to rule, in that we can only drive all the time we have reasonable access to facilities and what I am seeing here is that access being withdrawn through purely commercial considerations and not humane considerations,
Listen mate I ain’t going on strike because they have closed Mark’s and Spencer’s because nobody is shopping in it. The Smith’s are still open as are the toilets and the showers.
Rather than coming out with utter pish such as that why not do something constructive and start a thread of where people can get hot food during lockdown - two here for you to start with Whitwood Truck stop at Castleford and both the Snack Attack cafe and the butty van are open on Foxhills industrial estate, Scunthorpe.

all services and truck stops have showers and toilets open
end of day if on days take a packed lunch and a flask.
if like me you do the odd night out take what you can.
and if worst happens on a night out use just eat app and your almost guaranteed to find a place that will deliver.
and next day if you have to survive on a bowl of cereal \porridge.
maybe tin of soup so be it.
although most decent truck stops are offering some kind of breakfast. and theres the odd butty van \snack van around.theres a lot worse things going on out there right now.
and not like its going to be like this for ever .places will eventually reopen
dozy:
you Can’t blame them , the services I’ve been in today
Are dead , I doubt there’s 5 cars in most & maybe 10 lorries in the one I’m
Nighting out in
For those that don’t do facebook, basically they are closing until further notice most of the shops in MSA’s, i think 30 are closing.[emoji2959][emoji2959]

I have been in email contact with Moto about this, here’s their reply…
During these challenging times, we are doing all we can to support you as you make essential journeys across the UK, keeping our supermarket shelves full, our NHS supplied and our vital services running. As you’ll know, our retail & forecourts shops are open 24/7 for you to obtain fuel, coffee, sandwiches and a sweet treat. Our essential facilities such as our toilets & showers remain open for you to refresh and relax, too.
However, in order to keep our sites running smoothly and safely, we are going to be making some changes which may affect your journey. When you visit us over the coming days and weeks, the M&S stores you’re used to visiting, may be shut. 30% of our M&S stores will remain open throughout this period, however, due to low demand and a high level of wastage, we have had to shut some stores.
We appreciate this takes away more choice from our catering offer and this has not been a decision we have come to lightly, we are looking into further offers for HGV drivers and hope to be able to update you further soon.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
thats it exactly.
were losing money compared to normal,we have no interest in drivers or trucks apart from income, and have no interest in providing any service for them as that brings us back to we are losing money keeping the facilities open,so we just take the least financial crucifixion option and close the facilities…tough ■■■■■ truckies .
as soon as we reopen you will be back in droves anyway so why should we care…job done

I am absolutely disgusted that the infrastructure is being shut down like this.
It has to be time to consider driving to rule, in that we can only drive all the time we have reasonable access to facilities and what I am seeing here is that access being withdrawn through purely commercial considerations and not humane considerations, this surely has to have an affect upon our ability to do our jobs in a secure and healthy and humane way.
I would say that a withdrawal of our services/skills is now reasonable.
What I would do, is take my own food and BLOOD Y cook it my self, not difficult to get a pot, and the double burner stove back out. Go full philp flop, stock the side box up, Didn’t we use to do this before…
all you need to do is to park up in a country layby then just go into a field and pick it fresh and straight into the pot.
itl save the farmers a fortune so they dont need to be burning it after it rots in the field due to not having any slave labour to pick it this year.
