ROADRANGER:
If I was sharing a truck with three other drivers on 4 on 4 off I would prefer to take my own fridge.
I had a fridge fitted to my actros, it’s ok,but every now and then it thinks it’s a freezer.
If it wasn’t fitted I would have sent it back under warranty.
It’s a [zb] to clean,I can imagine the state it would get in with multiple drivers.
+1
And when the motor is off the road, the driver won’t drive another motor without a fridge etc etc…
Bear in mind as well when trucks go back to the manufacture after the 5 years is up, you get screwed for everything. Daf charge £300 for curtains, more for a mattress. How much for a fitted but non functioning fridge.
If judging a job depends on whether you get a fridge or not you may need to have a word with yourself.
Best fridge without a doubt in any truck in this country for me is the new Volvo fridge by a country mile. Big and deep (so you can stand 2 pint bottles of milk up) you can easy store enough stuff for the week in it. Also the freezer compartment is great. I can fit 4 pre made chillis, stews, currys or whatever and they’ll stay frozen all week if I don’t need them.
My truck is actually going into Volvo tomorow due to the fridge not going below 7-8 degrees and fault code E3 coming up meaning the compressor has starting problems or somthing so I’m in one of the V8 Scanias for the week and ■■■■ me the fridge in this is ham shank. Probably be able to store 3 1 litre bottles of fruit juice laid down and not much else plus only a pint bottle of milk stood up. The freezer section is tiny also.

My fridge in my volvo is under the bunk which pulls out it is a good size also a freezer although the separator is missing although it not that important to me & I find the fridge is big enough to store what I need for the week ( don’t know about milk as never use it )
Wasn’t there a thing way back with drivers buying 2nd hand cool boxes on eBay out of Alhambra’s/Galaxy’s as they where small enough to fit under most bunks? (ie: eBay #191936717740)
Newmercman, I can not see the garden shed, shower and bathroom, dog kennel and kitchen sink in the back of your lorry .
Here I am struggling with an Aldi and Lidl bag for life with food in it and three weeks of dirty under crackers Y fronts and you show us a fridge that could feed the population of Lesoto in Africa .
Never had a truck with a built in cool box. Always had to take my own when needed but Nights Out haven’t been a huge part of what I’ve done.
I do agree though that if someone is doing long term tramping and a new vehicle is specced it should ideally include a factory fridge.
One thing I would say is that if you’re considering buying one of your own spend the cash and get a decent compressor one like a Waeco, ARB or something like that.
I have a “cool box” built into my Land Rover Discovery and, to be honest, I wouldn’t use it for much more than keeping a few drinks cool. Certainly would never put any meat in it. They need to be a good compressor unit if you don’t want to end up with several bouts of food poisoning a month.

That’s been one of my favourite teas since I was a kid! I use those tins of boiled new potatoes, I drain the water, slice them up and fry them in a little butter, chest magnifique
