I would not work as a C & E Driver for £6.20 per hr, no way does that rate of pay take into account all the responsibilities we professional driver have , then there is the risk’s that come with the job, being hi-jacked .shot of seriously wounded by some knob who wants the load &truck, as well as the increased road risks, that rate of pay is Representative of hourly pay in the 80’s for a general factory worker,
Times are hard is no excuse , and TBH wages like these do not help the economy either
Mass immigration /migration , governments with no balls and a corrupt banking system are 3 reasons why the country is so (zb’ed)
Well a long thread this one. Clearly £6.20/hour is a ■■■■ take and those of you that disagree deserve the ■■■■■ wages that you are evidently happy to work for. Perhaps those that have defended the rate would be happy to move jobs and work for Coombe Transport and flog themselves for Lesleyanne’s rate while the company counts the huge profit they are making out of them…
Even better…get Lesleyanne to pay you all minimum wage with no o/time… Just think how much you could claim in meal allowances night’s out etc…and how the bank manager will laugh at you when you try to convince them you’re actually earning a decent wage when, in reality your hourly earnings are the same as a teenager delivering newspapers…You would have such self respect!!!
Lesleyanne hasn’t given us a straight answer and she never will because she knows full well the rate is abysmal…
My gripe is more with the idiots that are prepared to work for that kind of money…if they said no…companies wouldn’t get away with it!

Self Respect and a wage packet at the end of the week says it all really. Why do you feel it necessary to slate the Drivers they are decent hard working individuals. Greed is not in their vocabulary. Why should I give anyone an answer when people do not look at the full story
Lesleyanne, for the love of god, it’s the company who are getting slated for the low wage!!! Stop twisting it to suit your own need!

It may be the Company that pay the wages but our Drivers are not Idiots so that is why I defend them
Its all well and good for people that do not live around here but in a larger area where work is obviously well paid and vacancies aplenty. There is a severe lack of work in this area and an abundance of Drivers that want to work for whatever the pay is.

And you are happy to take advantage of these desperate people.
Look people…This person said she would get her drivers to come on here and sing the praises of this wonderous company. So where are they? £6.20 per hour is still the issue…Gonna have a crack at answering honestly today love?

they are saving up for broadband.
I have only looked at a few of the posts but would like to add that, after a new driver has paid for his qualifications to gain a licence, then paid for the dcpc etc, its probably cost him over 2 grand, so to be offered a low paid job such as this, will put him off of transport for life. With nights out it probably amounts to something in the region £410 IF £20 a night out + 50 hrs then take away tax and NI and you could take home £300 if your lucky. which is a great deal less than i was taking home 30 yrs ago.
If Coombe valley are struggling to pay a decent wage then i suggest they pack up, park up, and enjoy the cash theyve already made.
They are an old established company, and its a sad state of affairs when wages are being driven through the floor, yet profits are still trying to be maintained to a decent level, no wonder there are so many foreign drivers applying for the low paid jobs, as it is only them ( whilst roughing it ) who can afford to work at these companies, any self respecting driver/family man with a mortgage/children could not possibly afford to live on such a low wage, and many drivers who are out of work, wouldnt even get out of bed, as the social would give him a better standard of living. RIP Combe Valley, the next company to go against the wall.

We do not take advantage of anyone. This is a free Country.

Within the Dover area, a Stagecoach bus driver is on better than £9 an hour, and a train conductor guard based at Dover Priory is on nearly 27k basic.

The full story is a transport company are blatently taking advantage of desperate and misguided drivers. You could pay them £50 a week were it legal, and they’d still be taking a wage home. Doesn’t make it right though. If your drivers are so happy- where are they? So far we only have someone that isn’t earning £6.20 an hour saying it’s fine to be on such poor money. Let’s hear it from them how wonderful Coombe Valley Transport is.
Any driver prepared to be shafted like that has no self respect left. Companies like yours removed it the day they started.
Ok not been on here much this week but Lesley do your lorries have indictors on them & do your drivers know how to use them

Let’s just hope that when he stops, he knows how to put his handbrake on properly.
Here in Poole, Aldi want assistants 7 - 8 pounds an hour. How hard can that work be? And qualifications, nah.
